He says in this pAsuram that it is very difficult to know him.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>aRivennum thAL koLuvi aimpulanum thammil<\/em><br \/>\n<em> seRivennum thiN kadhavam semmi maRai enRum<\/em><br \/>\n<em> nangOdhi nanguNarvAr kANbarE nAdOrum<\/em><br \/>\n<em> paingOdha vaNNan padi<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>maRai \u2013 vEdham (sacred text)<br \/>\nenRum \u2013 without a break<br \/>\nnangu Odhi \u2013 \u00a0practicing well<br \/>\naRivu ennum \u2013 knowledge (of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">AthmA<\/a>, soul and <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">paramAthmA<\/a>, supreme being)<br \/>\nthAL koLuvi \u2013 latching<br \/>\naimpulanum \u2013 the five sensory perceptions<br \/>\nthammil seRivu ennum \u2013 keeping them under control in their respective matter<br \/>\nthiN kadhavam semmi \u2013 closing them with a strong \u00a0door<br \/>\nnangu uNarvAr \u2013 those who meditate well<br \/>\npaingOdha vaNNan padi \u2013 the characteristics of emperumAn who has the complexion of green ocean<br \/>\nnAL dhORum \u2013 every day<br \/>\nkANbar \u2013 will be able to see<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyanam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>aRivu ennum thAL koLuvi<\/strong> \u2013 ensuring that the mind does not stray into matters other than <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> by bolting firmly with the latch of knowledge. Leading it (mind) instead towards firm knowledge on emperumAn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>aimpulanaum thammil seRivu ennum thiN kadhavam semmi<\/strong> \u2013 keeping the sensory perceptions from straying into worldly matters and ensuring that they stay in their respective position by locking them up within the strong door. Ensuring that they do not go out by locking the door \u2013 the firm door in which mind and sensory perceptions are linked together. This refers to how the sensory organs are controlled.<\/p>\n<p><strong>maRai enRum nangOdhi<\/strong> \u2013 constantly reciting the vEdhas which, by nature, do only good to others, and sustaining this way. Just as it is mentioned in SrI vishNu purANam 1-6-2 \u201c<em>yOgAth<\/em> <em>svAdhyAya mAmanEth<\/em>\u201d (through meditation, attaining learning), if one were able to practice meditation, the union of pramANam (authentic source of information, here it refers to vEdhas) and pramEyam (one who is indicated by the vEdhas, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>) should be experienced.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nangu uNarvAr kANbarE<\/strong> \u2013 those who follow this way will be able to see [emperumAn] always. Those who know well, follow these steps: <em>SravaNam<\/em> (hearing), <em>mananam<\/em> (thinking), <em>nidhidhyAsanam <\/em>(meditating), <em>upAsanam<\/em> (carrying out upAsanA or devotion), <em>dhruvAnusmruthi <\/em>(meditating continuously), <em>dharSanasamAnakArathA<\/em> (appearing like visualising directly) and <em>prathyakshApaththi <\/em>(seeing with the eyes) [in matter relating to <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>Who do they see?<\/p>\n<p><strong>paingOdha vaNNan padi<\/strong> \u2013 characteristics of one who has the complexion of green coloured ocean; one who has the divine form which removes fatigue. Such people (who know, following the steps mentioned above) will see every day. Just as it is mentioned of nithyasUris (permanent dwellers of SrIvaikuNtam) in rig ashtakam 1-2-7 \u201c<em>sadhA paSyanthi sUraya:<\/em>\u201d (nithyasUris see <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> constantly), these people will also be able to see all the time.<\/p>\n<p>Alternative explanation:<\/p>\n<p><strong>nangOdhi nangu uNarvAr<\/strong> \u2013 Just as it is mentioned in harivamSam bavishya 89-9 \u201c<em>OmithyEva sadhA viprA: patathadhyAdha kESavam<\/em>\u201d (Oh brAhmaNas!
