To reach emperumAn who does not have anyone superior to him or even equalling him, shouldn\u2019t one follow a means which is like emperumAn himself \u2013 without anything superior or equal to it? (is there any such means other than emperumAn\u2019s mercy!) AzhwAr says that when compared to the benefit that he had obtained through emperumAn\u2019s mercy, those who had attained emperumAn before him have not got anything.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>navinRuraiththa nAvalargaL nANmalar koNdu AngE<\/em><br \/>\n<em> payinRadhanAl peRRa payan enkol payinRAr tham<\/em><br \/>\n<em> meyththavaththAl kANbariya mEgamaNivaNNanai yAn<\/em><br \/>\n<em> eththvaththAl kANbankol inRu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meaning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>navinRu uraiththa \u2013 (through other means, reciting) <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s divine names for a long time<br \/>\nnAvalargaL \u2013 poets<br \/>\nnAL malar koNdu \u2013 taking flowers which had just then blossomed<br \/>\nAngE payinRu \u2013 approaching that emperumAn closely<br \/>\nadhanAl peRRa payan enkol \u2013 what is the benefit (that they had) thus obtained?<br \/>\npayinRAr tham \u2013 those who carry out efforts through other means [than emperumAn\u2019s mercy]<br \/>\nmey thavaththAl \u2013 the penance that they carry out with their physical bodies<br \/>\nkANbariya \u2013 one who is impossible to see<br \/>\nmEga maNivaNNanai \u2013 emperumAn who has the complexion of cloud and blue coloured gem<br \/>\nyAn \u2013 <em>adiyEn<\/em> (the servitor, I)<br \/>\ninRu \u2013 now<br \/>\neththavaththAl kol kANban \u2013 with which penance will I see?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>navinRu uraiththu<\/strong> \u2013 reciting <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>\u2019s divine names repeatedly, with lot of\u00a0 involvement<\/p>\n<p><strong>nAvalargaL<\/strong> \u2013 entities such as brahmA et al, who desire other benefits<\/p>\n<p><strong>nAL malar koNdu<\/strong> \u2013 taking objects such as freshly blossomed flowers; taking good flowers<\/p>\n<p><strong>AngE payinRadhanAl peRRa payan enkol<\/strong> \u2013 what benefits did such people get after attaining emperumAn? The benefit which a person obtains with his own efforts is not a benefit at all.<\/p>\n<p><strong>payinRAr tham<\/strong> \u2013 those who carry out means with their own efforts, i.e. those who attain <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> this way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>meyththavaththAl<\/strong> \u2013 through the penance that they carry out by subjecting their physical bodies to pain<\/p>\n<p><strong>kANbariya mEga maNivaNNanai<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>, who is difficult to see through their own efforts, who is having the complexion of cloud and blue coloured gems, who has a divine form which removes the fatigue of those who see him<\/p>\n<p><strong>yAn eththavaththAl kANban kol inRu<\/strong> \u2013 what penance did I, a very lowly entity, carry out and see him? I saw him because he chose to show himself to me. It is only this much and nothing else. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/bhuthaththazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says that despite not carrying out any effort, he was able to see emperumAn because of his natural grace. Just as <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> said of himself that there is none like him as in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/02\/thiruvaimozhi-4-5-8-namakkum\/\">thiruvAimozhi 4-5-8<\/a> \u201c<em>yAr nigar agal vAnaththE<\/em>\u201d (who, in SrIvaikuNtam, can equal me?) and as in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/02\/thiruvaimozhi-4-5-9-vanaththum\/\">thiruvAimozhi 4-5-9<\/a> \u201c<em>vAnak kOnaik kavisolla vallERku ini mARu uNdO<\/em>\u201d (is there anyone who can substitute me in singing paeans on <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>?), this AzhwAr too is asking if there is anyone who is his equal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>kANban kol inRu<\/strong> \u2013 unless I had known yesterday that I am going to see emperumAn today, how could I find a reason for this?
