The matter which is very delicious for me is only this (emperumAn). He gives out the reason for his not moving away from <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>.\u00a0 After seeing the way emperumAn gave himself for one devotee, prahlAdha, he felt his fear leaving him and he enjoys emperumAn as \u201che is ours\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>varam karudhith thannai vaNangAdha vanmai<\/em><br \/>\n<em> uram karudhi mUrkkaththavanai naram kalandha<\/em><br \/>\n<em> singamAyk kINda thiruvan adiyiNaiyE<\/em><br \/>\n<em> angaNmA gyAlaththu amudhu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meaning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>varam karudhi \u2013 keeping the boons (granted by dhEvas, celestial entities) in mind<br \/>\nthannai vaNangAdha \u2013 not bowing down to him (emperumAn)<br \/>\nvanmai uram karudhi \u2013 thinking about (his) strength of boons and physical strength<br \/>\nmUrkkaththavanai \u2013 iraNiyan (hiraNyakashyap) who was arrogant<br \/>\nnaram kalandha singamAyk kINda \u2013 breaking him, taking the form of narasimha (face of lion with body of human)<br \/>\nthiruvan \u2013 the beautiful<br \/>\nadi iNaiyE \u2013 the two divine feet<br \/>\nam kaN mA gyAlaththu \u2013 in this expansive beautiful place<br \/>\namudhu \u2013 (sweet) nectar<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>varam karudhi<\/strong> \u2013 iraNiyan had thought too great of the boons that he had obtained from other dhEvathAs. Just as a person would trust a boat with a hole in it, he was trusting those boons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thannai vaNangAdha vanmai<\/strong> \u2013 he was of the opinion that he would not bow down to the sarvESvara, who is the causative factor for those dhEvathAs too. iraNiyan had the same behaviour as rAvaNa who said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 36-11 \u201c<em>dhvidhA bhajyEyamapyEvam na namEyanthu kaSyachith<\/em>\u201d (even if broken into two, I will not bow down before anybody).<\/p>\n<p><strong>uram karudhi<\/strong> \u2013 being vain due to his haughtiness; being egoistic<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ukkaththavanai<\/strong> \u2013 one who felt proud because of the strength of his boons and his shoulders; one who is egoistic. <em>Ukkam<\/em> refers to a state of being. If the text is considered as <strong>mUrkkaththavanai<\/strong> the meaning will change to \u2013 one who is arrogant and stubborn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>naram kalandha singamAyk kINda<\/strong> \u2013 iraNiyan had taken a boon that he should not be killed by anything which had been created until then. Hence <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> took a form which was a combination of lion and human being, <em>narasimha<\/em>, a form which had not been created until then and eliminated him. He incarnated combining both lion and human.<\/p>\n<p><strong>naram kalandha singam<\/strong> \u2013 like a mixture of concentrated milk and sugar or a mixture of milk and honey, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> took incarnation as a combination of lion and human. If he had taken a form of only lion or man, he would have had to be pushed out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thiruvan<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/bhuthaththazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says that even if emperumAn had combined two forms which were incompatible with each other, he had total radiance about him. He says that emperumAn was like <em>SrImath<\/em> [refers to mahAlakshmi being always with emperumAn]. Haven\u2019t nAnmugan thiruvandhAdhi 22 \u201c<em>azhagiyAn thane ariyuruvam thAnE<\/em>\u201d (even if he has the form of lion, he is beautiful) and SrI vishNu sahasranAmam says \u201c<em>nArasimhavapu: SrImAn<\/em>\u201d (he is lion and human forms put together and has the support of mahAlakshmi) conveyed the same meaning!<\/p>\n<p><strong>adiyiNaiyE<\/strong> \u2013 his two divine feet, which complement each other.<\/p>\n<p><strong>angaN mA gyAlaththu amudhu<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/bhuthaththazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says that <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> is the nectar consumed on the beautiful, expansive earth. The nectar which is to be enjoyed in <em>paramapadham<\/em> (SrIvaikuNtam) is available to be enjoyed on this earth itself, he says.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thiruvan<\/strong> \u2013 one who is with <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sri-mahalakshmi\/\">pirAtti (SrI mahAlakshmi)<\/a>. Isn\u2019t \u00a0the reason for removing the enemies of followers, to please the mother of such followers! Just as it is mentioned in SrI rAmAyaNam AraNya kANdam 30-39 \u201c<em>tham dhrushtva SathruhanthAram maharshINAm sukhAvaham babhUva hrushtA vaidhEhi bhArthAram parishasvajE<\/em>\u201d (after seeing SrI rAma who annihilated the enemies and gave comfort to the sages, sIthA felt that she existed; she was joyous; she embraced him, her husband, tightly), did not sIthAp pirAtti become happy because the demons were eliminated and hence hugged him!
