Instead of getting rid of the scent of samsAram from them with the help of such an entity, the celestial people (<em>dhEvas<\/em>) obtained nectar, which is like salt water, from him. Thus he speaks about the activities of emperumAn by which he grants what each person wants from that persons\u2019 position and how he avoids giving what is not required. AzhwAr says that people lose him on their own [by not asking for him] and that there is no shortcoming in emperumAn.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>vali mikka vAL eyiRRu vALavuNar mALa<\/em><br \/>\n<em> vali mikka vAL varai maththAga valimikka<\/em><br \/>\n<em> vANAgam suRRi maRugak kadal kadaindhAn<\/em><br \/>\n<em> kONAgam kombu osiththa kO<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Word by Word Meaning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>vali mikka \u2013 being mightily strong<br \/>\nvAL eyiRu \u2013 having canine teeth resembling swords<br \/>\nvAL \u2013 having an army of swords<br \/>\navuNar \u2013 demons<br \/>\nmALa \u2013 to be destroyed<br \/>\nvali mikka vAL varai maththAga \u2013 having <em>manthara<\/em> mountain, which is very strong and radiant, as the churning staff<br \/>\nvali mikka vAL nAgam \u2013 the serpent vAsuki, which is very strong and radiant<br \/>\nsuRRi \u2013 using it as a rope around the churning staff<br \/>\nkadal maRuga kadaindhAn \u2013 one who churned the ocean such that it became a slimey mass<\/p>\n<p>Who is that?<br \/>\nkOL nAgam \u2013 the exulting elephant called as kuvalayApIdam, which is very strong<br \/>\nkombu \u2013 its tusks<br \/>\nosiththa \u2013 one who broke it (playfully)<br \/>\nkO \u2013 the Lord<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>vali mikka vAL avuNar mALa<\/strong> \u2013 making the demons, who are strong, who have radiant canine teeth and who have weapons, to get destroyed. In other worlds, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> made the strength of demons to get destroyed and that of dhEvas (celestial entities) to grow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vali mikka vAL varai maththAga<\/strong> \u2013 when the omnipotent emperumAn himself churned the ocean, he used the <em>manthara <\/em>mountain which is very strong and which would not decay under the impact, and which is radiant. He made it very strong to use it as churning staff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vali mikka vAL nAgam suRRi<\/strong> \u2013 when he used <em>manthara<\/em> mountain as a churning staff, he used the serpent <em>vAsuki<\/em>\u00a0 as the rope for coiling around the staff since vAsuki would not rupture during the churning process, being very strong and was as radiant as the mountain. In order to ensure that vAsuki would not tear off during the churning process, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> gave it additional strength.<\/p>\n<p><strong>maRugak kadal kadaindhAn<\/strong> \u2013 he churned the ocean such that the bottom layers of the ocean came on top. The ocean was agitated like curd is agitated in a vessel and suffered the same pain that the curd in the small vessel suffered.<\/p>\n<p>Who churned the ocean like that?<\/p>\n<p><strong>kOL nAgam kombu osiththa kO<\/strong> \u2013 one who is like an anchor for all of us. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> is the leader who broke the tusks of the elephant kuvalayApIdam [the royal elephant of King kamsan] which came to harm him. He got rid of his enemy and made us as his servitors through the exhibition of such valour. After destroying his enemy and protecting himself, emperumAn offered himself as the leader of the world. Through this act, he made us all as his servitors.
