When others protect, they will do so without any harm to their identity. \u00a0But emperumAn will be even willing to change his identity if he has to protect them.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>koNdadhu ulagam kuRaL uruvAyk kOL ariyAy<\/em><br \/>\n<em> oNdiRalOn mArvaththu ugir vaiththadhu uNdadhuvum<\/em><br \/>\n<em> thAn kadandha EzhulagE thAmaraikkaN mAl orunAL<\/em><br \/>\n<em> vAn kadandhAn seydha vazhakku<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meaning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>kuRaL uruvAy \u2013 in the form of vAmana (dwarf)<\/p>\n<p>(went to mahAbali and begged)<br \/>\nkoNdadhu \u2013 seized<br \/>\nkOL ariyAy \u2013 became narasimha with strength<br \/>\noN thiRalOn mArvaththu \u2013 on the chest of the might iraNiyan (hiraNyakashyap)<br \/>\nugir vaiththadhu \u2013 pressed his fingernails and tore him, killing him<br \/>\noru nAL \u2013 at one point of time<br \/>\nthAn kadandha \u2013 that which he measured<br \/>\nEzh ulagE \u2013 all the worlds<br \/>\nuNdadhuvum \u2013 keeping in his divine stomach (so that deluge will not swallow it)<\/p>\n<p>(all these activities)<br \/>\nvAn kadandhAn \u2013 having the greatness that\u00a0 even if one were to measure the sky, he cannot be measured<br \/>\nthAmaraikkaN \u2013 having eyes like reddish lotus<br \/>\nmAl \u2013 emperumAn<br \/>\nseydha \u2013 mercifully carried out<br \/>\nvazhakku \u2013 honest activities<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>koNdadhu<\/strong> \u2013 this mentions about emperumAn protecting the world. Even if he carries out very difficult tasks, he assumes that \u201cI did what I am supposed to do\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>koNdadhu ulagam kuRaL uruvAy<\/strong> \u2013 for the sake of his followers, he assumed the form of vAmana (a dwarf) to obtain the worlds. For getting back his possession, was it required to go begging? If he had to ask for alms, could he not have gone in his natural form? Did he have to take the form of a dwarf?<\/p>\n<p><strong>kOL ariyAy oNdiRalOn mArvaththu ugir vaiththadhu<\/strong> \u2013 In order to keep his finger nails on the chest of the mighty iraNiyan (hiraNyakashyap) did he not assume the form of narasinga (lion face and human torso) which no one else in the world assumed! <em>kOL ari<\/em> \u2013 very powerful narasimha. Could he not have destroyed the enemy iraNiyan with one form? Did he have to combine lion and man?<\/p>\n<p><strong>oN thiRalOn<\/strong> \u2013 very powerful iraNiyan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>mArvaththu ugi vaiththadhu<\/strong> \u2013 it is implied here that he, with his own hands, touched and destroyed the enemy of his followers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ugir vaiththadhu<\/strong> \u2013 Could he not have killed him with his divine disc? If he had to do that [kill iraNiyan with his nails] since iraNiyan had obtained the boon that he should not die of any weapon, could he not have killed him with his <em>sankalpam<\/em> (mere thought), if he had so much of ingenuity!<\/p>\n<p><strong>uNdadhuvum thAn kadandha EzhulagE<\/strong> \u2013 Was it not enough that he had to assist one follower, prahlAdha? Did he have to protect the entire world?<\/p>\n<p><strong>uNdadhuvum thAn oru nAL kadandha EzhulagE<\/strong> \u2013 did he not protect the world which he had one day (during his incarnation as thrivikrama) kept under his divine feet! Alternatively, we have to construe the meaning for <em>oru nAL<\/em> as once upon a time when he ate up the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thAmaraikkaN mAL<\/strong> \u2013 sarvESvaran (supreme being) who is lotus-eyed (it is implied that only the one with lotus eyes can be the ISvaran (controller) for all the worlds). <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> too has divinely mentioned in his thiruvAimozhi 6-5-10 \u201c<em>anaiththulagum udaiya aravindha lOchananai<\/em>\u201d (only the one with lotus eyes is the possessor of all the worlds).<\/p>\n<p>Who begged as SrI vAmana for the earth, who tore the chest of iraNiyan as SrI narasimha, who ate up the world that he had measured one day?<\/p>\n<p><strong>vAn kadandhAn<\/strong> \u2013 one who cannot be estimated (measured). As said in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/07\/thiruvaimozhi-1-3-10-thuyakkaru-mathiyil\/\">thiruvAimozhi 1-3-10<\/a> \u201c<em>vAnilum periyana vallan<\/em>\u201d, one can measure even the sky but not emperumAn. Alternatively, the word <em>vAn<\/em> can be taken to imply those in the sky, and the meaning will change to: he is greater than nithyasUris in paramapadham. Or it can mean <em>vAnai aLandhavan<\/em> \u2013 one who measured heaven.<\/p>\n<p><strong>seydha vazhakku<\/strong> \u2013 he is the protector of the world. Hence in order to protect the worlds which are his possession, he carried out certain tasks and was contented that \u201cI did what I was supposed to do\u201d. He thought that he had done all these for himself and not for others. Since he is the Lord, he is responsible for protecting his possession and hence did those.
