Why talk ill of them? <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/bhuthaththazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says that these other deities approach <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> and obtain the authority that they need and the [limited] ability to fulfil their followers\u2019 wishes. Hence, it is appropriate for us for the remainder of our lives to hold on to emperumAn\u2019s divine feet only (in the second explanation for the earlier pAsuram it was said that the other deities worship emperumAn. In the same way, they get their authority for administrative purposes).<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>avar ivar enRillai aravaNaiyAN pAdham<\/em><br \/>\n<em> evar vaNangi EththAdhAr eNNil pavarum<\/em><br \/>\n<em> sezhum kadhirOn oNmalarOn kaNNudhalOn enRE<\/em><br \/>\n<em> thozhum thagaiyAr nALum thodarndhu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meaning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>eNNil \u2013 if we analyse (who all get their sustenance from <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>)<br \/>\navar ivar enRu illai \u2013 there is no distinction between one person and the other when it comes to attaining him [for getting favours]<br \/>\naravu aNaiyAN pAdham \u2013 the divine feet of emperumAn who has AdhiSEshan as his mattress<br \/>\nvaNangi \u2013 worship<br \/>\nEththAdhAr \u2013 those who do not praise<br \/>\nevar \u2013 who? (there is none)<br \/>\npavarum sezhum kadhirOn \u2013 sun who has well spread out rays in thousands<br \/>\noNmalarOn \u2013 brahmA who has the beautiful lotus (growing out of emperumAn\u2019s navel) as his seat<br \/>\nkaN nudhalOn \u2013 rudhra who has an eye in his forehead<\/p>\n<p>(all these deities)<br \/>\nnALum \u2013 every day<br \/>\nthodarndhu thozhum thagaiyAr anRE \u2013 aren\u2019t they having the quality of seeking out the place where <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> is dwelling and worshipping him?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>avar ivar enRillai<\/strong> \u2013 There is no difference between lowly people or great people. (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> is attained, without any distinction, by all entities, including the dhEvars such as brahmA, rudhra et al who are famous for being attained by others, and the people who attain such dhEvas . Is there any child who is not liked by its mother? (thus all the entities attain emperumAn).<\/p>\n<p>Who do they attain?<\/p>\n<p><strong>aravaNaiyAn pAdham<\/strong> \u2013 the divine feet of emperumAn who is reclining on the mattress of AdhiSEshan in <em>thiruppARkadal<\/em> (milky ocean). Isn\u2019t reclining on AdhiSEshan a unique identification for emperumAn! AdhiSEshan is there with him in order to speak on our behalf and carry out <em>purushakAram<\/em> (recommend us to emperumAn). Hasn\u2019t it been said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 17-1 \u201c<em>yathra rAmassa lakshmaNa:<\/em>\u201d (where rAma is together with lakshmaNa) \u2013 vibhIshaNa came to that place where the two were together (that vibhIshaNa came to surrender to SrI rAma who was with lakshmaNa (an incarnation of AdhiSEshan) to play the role of recommending, is mentioned here). When <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> surrendered to emperumAn he did so in the presence of AdhiSEshan as in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/09\/thiruvaimozhi-5-10-11-naganai-misai\/\">thiruvAimozhi 5-10-11<\/a> \u201c<em>nAgaNai misai nambirAn charaNE SaraN<\/em>\u201d. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/andal\/\">ANdAL<\/a> too said the same in her nAchchiyAr thirumozhi 10-9 \u201c<em>nAgaNaiikE senRu<\/em>\u201d (going to the mattress of AdhiSEshan)<\/p>\n<p><strong>evar vaNangi EththAdhAr<\/strong> \u2013 who does not hold on to <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>? Everyone attains him. This is because one has to attain the divine feet of one who does not have to hold on to someone else (that particular quality is present only with emperumAn)<\/p>\n<p><strong>eNNil<\/strong> \u2013 if one were to analyse; or, if one were to think.<\/p>\n<p><strong>pavarum sezhum kadhirOn oN malarOn kan nudhalOn anRE<\/strong> \u2013 these people are famous for being attained by others. But even these people attain <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>pavarum sezhum kadhirOn<\/strong> \u2013 sun with spread out, infinite number of rays.<\/p>\n<p><strong>oN malarOn<\/strong> \u2013 brahmA who is in the lotus shooting out of emperumAn\u2019s navel.<\/p>\n<p><strong>kaN nudhalOn<\/strong> \u2013 rudhra who has an eye in his forehead.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t these people&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>thozhum thagaiyAr nALum thodarndhu<\/strong> \u2013 have the quality of following <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> wherever he goes, compel him and attain him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nALum thozhum thagaiyAr<\/strong> \u2013 every day they are worshipping emperumAn. Just as a rope will lose its strength if it is untwisted, these people also think that they will lose all their power if they do not worship emperumAn and hence keep following him. Instead of worshipping him because this is what has been ordained, they worship him in order to get some benefits [and lose the more important benefit of enjoying him].
