Or, it could be construed as how <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> taught him to be subservient to him. In this pAsuram, he thinks of emperumAn\u2019s simplicity and worships him without <em>mamakAram <\/em>(being possessive).<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>nagarizhaiththu niththilaththu nANmalar koNdu AngE<\/em><br \/>\n<em> thigazhumaNi vayiram sErththu nigarillAp<\/em><br \/>\n<em> paingamalam Endhip paNindhEn panimalarAL<\/em><br \/>\n<em> angam valam koNdAnadi<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meaning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>nagar izhaiththu \u2013 making my heart as the capital for <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> to reside<br \/>\nAngE niththilaththu nAL malar koNdu \u2013 making affection (devotion), also termed as pearl, as a flower that has just blossomed that day<br \/>\nthigazhum maNi vayiram sErththu \u2013 keeping carbuncle and diamond as water lily and pollen respectively<br \/>\nnigar illA \u2013 the incomparable<br \/>\npaim kamalam Endhi \u2013 donning bhakthi as a cool lotus flower<br \/>\npanimalrAL angam valam koNdAn \u2013 emperumAn who keeps SrIdhEvi (SrI mahAlakshmi), who dwells in a lotus, on his right chest<br \/>\nadi \u2013 divine feet<br \/>\npaNindhEn \u2013 I worshipped<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>niththilaththu nAL malar koNdu\u00a0 AngE nagar izhaiththu<\/strong> \u2013 The meaning for this could be construed either as referring to flower like bhakthi or creating a flower which is as cool as pearl. Just as in the case of \u201c<em>anbE thagaLiyA<\/em>\u201d where <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/bhuthaththazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> referred to affection (devotion) as a simile for lamp, here too he is referring to bhakthi\u00a0 (devotion) as a simile for flower and is attaining <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> with that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nagar izhaiththu<\/strong> \u2013 keeping his heart as a dwelling place fit for emperumAn. nagar is town, referred here to as temple (it is pertinent to recall that <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/periyazhwar\/\">periyAzhwAr<\/a> has also said <em>\u2018mArvam enbadhOr kOyil amaiththu<\/em>\u2019 (setting heart as a temple)).<\/p>\n<p><strong>niththilaththu nAL malar koNdu<\/strong> \u2013 thinking of a cool pearl as a petal. Making a petal out of devotion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>niththilaththu nAL malar <\/strong>\u2013 cool, fragrant flower. As said in SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam \u201c<em>dhvidhAbhajyEyamapyEvam na namEyam<\/em>\u201d (even if split into two, I will not worship [SrI rAma, said rAvaNa]), being unlike this is in itself cool and comfortable to the mind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nAL malar<\/strong> \u2013 cool flower<\/p>\n<p><strong>AngE<\/strong> \u2013 in that mind<\/p>\n<p><strong>thigazhum maNi vayiram serththu<\/strong> \u2013 taking shining carbuncles and diamonds as being involved, and keeping them as water lilies and pollens. bhakthi is referred to as radiant carbuncle and diamond gems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nigar illAp paim kamalam Endhi<\/strong> \u2013 donning the incomparable meditation as flower, attained <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>paingamalam<\/strong> \u2013 well spread out lotus flower. In other words, I worshipped with the lotus of my heart. There is a simile for other lotuses. But since there is none for <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/bhuthaththazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a>\u2019s lotus like heart, he is terming it as incomparable cool lotus. In this pAsuram, AzhwAr is terming love as a metaphor for pearl and devotion as a metaphor for carbuncles and diamonds. Hasn\u2019t been divinely mentioned as in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2015\/07\/thiruvaimozhi-1-4-9-nadatha-malar\/\">thiruvAimozhi 1-4-9<\/a> \u201c<em>nAdAdha malar nAdi<\/em>\u201d (searching for flowers which are difficult to get) and in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/01\/thiruvaimozhi-4-3-2-pusum-sandhu\/\">thiruvAimozhi 4-3-2<\/a> \u201c<em>pUsum sAndhu en nenjumE<\/em>\u201d (the sandalwood paste to be applied to <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> is my heart itself)! The reason for terming bhakthi as a<em> bhAvapushpam<\/em> (emotional flower) is because of the maturity of bhakthi resulting from the enjoyment of emperumAn who is always with pirAtti (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sri-mahalakshmi\/\">SrI mahAlakshmi<\/a>i).<\/p>\n<p>Who is <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/bhuthaththazhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> attaining?<\/p>\n<p><strong>panimarAL angam valam koNdAn adi<\/strong> \u2013 I fell at the divine feet of emperumAn who is embracing the boundlessly sweet pirAtti on his right side. Thus, he is saying that the entity to be attained is only emperumAn who is with <em>thirumagaL<\/em> (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sri-mahalakshmi\/\">SrI mahAlakshmi<\/a>). The apt person to be subservient to like this is only <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>. The attainment, even if it is faulty, will become faultless if he is attained when she is with him. She will not allow him to analyse the good and bad deeds of the followers!
