In this pAsuram, he shows his amazement at samsAris (dwellers of this materialistic realm) who are using such parts of their body (as their tongues etc) as implements for nurturing samsAram (materialistic life).<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>nA vAyil uNdE namO nAraNA enRu<\/em><br \/>\n<em> ovAdhu uraikkum urai uNdE mUvAdha<\/em><br \/>\n<em> mAkkadhikkaN sellum vagai uNdE en oruvar<\/em><br \/>\n<em> thIkkadhikkaN sellum thiRam<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>nA \u2013 tongue (which is the implement for praising <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>)<br \/>\nvAyil uNdE \u2013 is inside the mouth (without the need for searching for it outside)<br \/>\nOvAdhu \u2013 many times (without getting tired)<br \/>\nuraikkum \u2013 apt to say<br \/>\nnamO nAraNA enRu urai \u2013 thirumanthram<br \/>\nuNdE \u2013 is available<br \/>\nmUvAdha \u2013 not coming back<br \/>\nmA gadhikkaN \u2013 in paramapadham (SrIvaikuNtam) which is the goal to be attained<br \/>\nsellum vagai uNdE \u2013 archirAdhi mArga, the path to go [to SrIvaikuNtam] is ready<\/p>\n<p>(when things are like this)<br \/>\nthI gadhikkaN \u2013 in the path to naragam (hell)<br \/>\noruvar \u2013 some people<br \/>\nsellum thiRan \u2013 why are they going?<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>nA vAyil uNdE<\/strong> \u2013 Is there a need to search outside for the tongue which is to be used for reciting the divine names of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>! ISvaran (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>) has already created tongue! Just as sumithrA tells lakshmaNa in SrI rAmAyaNam ayOdhyA kANdam 40-5\u201d<em>srushtathva vanavAsAya<\/em>\u201d (you have been created only for dwelling in forests), hasn\u2019t the tongue been created only for praising emperumAn?<\/p>\n<p><strong>namO nAraNA enRu OvAdhu uraikkum urai uNdE<\/strong> \u2013 Hasn\u2019t <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> given us the manthram (incantation) which is so simple that it can be recited ten times in a breath, instead of some manthrams such as <em>sahasrAksharImAlAmanthram<\/em> (a manthram which is made up of thousands of letters) which cannot be recited even within a day! Just as the tongue has been given by emperumAn, hasn\u2019t this manthram been given by the same emperumAn! As said in \u201c<em>kim thathra bahubhirmanthrai: kim thathra bahubhirvrathai: namO nArAyAnEthi manthra: sarvArtha sAdhaka: <\/em>\u201d (what is the purpose of other manthrams and other vrathams (vows)? The incantation namO nArayaNAya will give all benefits), hasn\u2019t it been stated that even other incantations of emperumAn are purposeless!<\/p>\n<p><strong>mUvAdha mAkkadhikkaN sellum vagai uNdE<\/strong> \u2013 hasn\u2019t <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> created mOksham (SrIvaikuNtam) by reaching which one does not have to return again, unlike other worlds such as swargam (heaven) from where one will be toppled after enjoying for a few days!<\/p>\n<p><strong>ennoruvar thIkkadhikkaN sellum thiRam <\/strong>\u2013 when such entities [tongue, thirumanthram, mOksham etc] are available without any shortcoming, how strange are the ways in which the worldly people repeatedly attain samsAram (materialistic realm)! When there is an easy, straightforward path available for getting uplifted, how are people going to difficult paths for getting destroyed and attaining meaninglessness!
