Those in charge of naragam will have to close the gates and leave the place. AzhwAr is mercifully saying what <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> mercifully said in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/05\/thiruvaimozhi-5-2-1-poliga-poliga\/\">thiruvAimozhi 5-2-1<\/a> \u201c<em>naliyum naragamum naindha namanukku ingu yAdhonRumillai<\/em>\u201d (hell which causes suffering, was destroyed. There is no work for yama (Lord of righteousness and the one in charge of hell) in this place.<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>iniyAr puguvAr ezhu naraga vAsal<\/em><br \/>\n<em> muniyAdhu mUriththAL kOmin kanisAyak<\/em><br \/>\n<em> kanRu eRindha thOLAn kanai kazhalE kANbadhaRku<\/em><br \/>\n<em> nangaRindha nAvalam sUzh nAdu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>kani \u2013 the demon who was in the form of wood-apple<br \/>\nsAya \u2013 to fall down and perish<br \/>\nkanRu \u2013 demon who came in the form of a calf<br \/>\neRindha \u2013 thrown<br \/>\nthOLAn \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> who has divine shoulders<br \/>\nkanai kazhalE \u2013 divine feet with ornaments which make a sound<br \/>\nkANbadhaRku \u2013 to\u00a0 see (the path)<br \/>\nam nAval sUzh nAdu \u2013 the living creatures in the expansive country which is beautiful and goes by the name of jambhUdhwIpam<br \/>\nnangu aRindhana \u2013 knew very well<br \/>\nini \u2013 henceforth<br \/>\nezhu naraga vAsal \u2013 at the gates of the seven types of hell<br \/>\nyAr puguvAr \u2013 who will enter<\/p>\n<p>(Oh yamakinkaras!) [servitors of yama]<br \/>\nmuniyAdhu \u2013 without getting angry (at me)<br \/>\nmUri thAL kOmin \u2013 close (the gates of hell) with strong latch<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>ezhu naraga vAsal ini yAr puguvAr<\/strong> \u2013 Who will enter the gates to the seven hell henceforth? After <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> said in SrI bhagavath gIthA 18-66 \u201c<em>sarvapApEbhyO mOkshayishyAmi<\/em>\u201d (I shall liberate from all sins) what is the purpose for various types of hell where one has to experience the effects of those sins? e<em>zhu naraga vAsal<\/em> could also be construed as the gate to hell attained by those who leave from their physical forms and rise. After the incarnation of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/azhwars\/\">AzhwArs<\/a>, there is no old samsAram (materialistic realm) [that is, the samsAram that used to be dreadful is now changed].<\/p>\n<p><strong>muniyAdhu<\/strong> \u2013 there is no significance for the anger of <em>yamakinkarars<\/em> (servitors of yama). <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/poigai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> tells them \u201cHence please listen to what I am saying without getting angry that I am talking of the destruction of your place\u201d. If you get angry, you will suffer the same fate that befell the demons who came in the form of wood-apple and calf.<\/p>\n<p><strong>mUriththAL kOmin<\/strong> \u2013 Close the hell with a huge latch. Only if the closure is a temporary one, would one need to use a small latch. Since there is no work for hell, close it with a huge latch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>kani sAyak kanRu eRindha thOLAn kanai kazhalE kANbadhaRku<\/strong> \u2013 to see the divine feet, which make a sound due to ornaments [anklets], of the one who has beautiful shoulders, who threw a calf which was possessed by a demon, to kill a wood-apple which was possessed by another demon. The sound of the ornaments donned on the divine feet of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>, which he changed while he targeted the wood-apple with a calf, is referred to here as <em>kanai kazhal<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nAvalam sUzh nAdu nangu aRindha<\/strong> \u2013 the people in this world called <em>jambUdhwIpam<\/em> (nAvalam thIvu) knew beautifully well the divine feet of the one who has the capability to destroy enemies. They will not leave this earth which has thirukkOvalUr in it, where emperumAn has taken residence. This becomes the reason for emperumAn to protect us. Haven\u2019t the sages of dhaNdakAraNya told SrI rAma\u00a0 in SrI rAmAyaNam AraNya kANdam 1-19 \u201c<em>thE vayam bhavathA rakshyA bhavath vishayavAsina:<\/em>\u201d (we, who live in your country, are to be protected by you)! Mentioning of thirukkOvalUr here implies that this will be true of all dhivyadhEsams (divine abodes) where <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> has taken residence [as archchAvathAram, idol form].
