He is asking whether there is any way other than reciting <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>&#8216;s divine names to survive. He says that there is no way to protect ourselves other than reciting the divine names of emperumAn, who churned the oceans, unmindful of his strain, while giving the elixir to those who were after other benefits [dhEvas, the celestial entities].<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>ALamar venRi adu kaLaththuL agyAnRu<\/em><br \/>\n<em> vALamar vENdi varai nattu nILaravaich<\/em><br \/>\n<em> chuRRik kadaindhAn peyar enRE thol nagaraip<\/em><br \/>\n<em> paRRIk kadaththum padai<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>AL amar venRi adu kaLaththuL \u2013 in the battlefield which contains warriors and victory<br \/>\nagyAnRu \u2013 during that time (when the demons troubled dhEvas, the celestial entities)<br \/>\nvAL amar vENdi \u2013 desiring the war which carries respect<br \/>\nvarai nattu \u2013 keeping the <em>mantharagiri<\/em> (a divine mountain) as (as agitator, to churn the ocean)<br \/>\nnIL aravaich chuRRi \u2013 coiling the long snake (vAsuki) as rope (for churning)<br \/>\nkadaindhAn \u2013 one who churned (the milky ocean)<br \/>\npeyar \u2013 divine names<br \/>\npaRRi \u2013 scooping (the chEthanas, the sentient entities)<br \/>\nthol naragai \u2013 the ancient hellish regions<br \/>\nkadaththum \u2013 will enable to cross<br \/>\npadai anRE \u2013 is it not an <em>upAyam<\/em> (means)!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>AL mar venRi adu kaLaththuL<\/strong> \u2013 being full of warriors, close to each other, having victory<\/p>\n<p><strong>adu kaLaththu<\/strong> \u2013 battlefield in which lives are lost<\/p>\n<p><strong>agyAnRu<\/strong> \u2013 that day when the demons troubled dhEvas and ate them up<\/p>\n<p><strong>vALamar vENdi<\/strong> \u2013 <em>vAL<\/em> \u2013 radiance. Desiring a war which will have radiance. When demons and celestial persons were engaged in the war, when the demons became very powerful and celestial persons started losing their strength, in order to create a war which will bring esteem for celestials who are friendly towards him and who are his followers, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> waited.<\/p>\n<p><strong>varai nattu nIL aravaich chuRRik kadaindhAn peyar anrE<\/strong> \u2013 but that needs a means. In deep waters [of the ocean] keeping a mountain which can sink, coiling the soft snake vAsuki, emperumAn churned the huge ocean.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thol naragaip paRRik kadaththum padai<\/strong> &#8211; \u00a0is it not the divine name of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> who is capable of measuring the ocean and churning it, which is capable of making us to cross the ancient hell of samsAram (materialistic realm) and to keep us in mOksham (SrIvaikuNtam)!<\/p>\n<p><strong>paRRik kadaththum padai<\/strong> \u2013 is it not the divine name of emperumAn which will sweep us from samsAram and keep us in paramapadham (SrIvaikuNtam)!
