Has he not made himself as a mendicant for all times to come, for all people to come and attain him, telling people \u2018will you not come and attain me?\u2019 by remaining at thirumalai?\u201d AzhwAr says \u201che remains at thirumalai at all times, as if telling people, don\u2019t regret that you were not there when I incarnated as vAmana, that my period was over and how do we enjoy him?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>vagaiyaRu nuN kELvi vAyvArgaL nALum<\/em><br \/>\n<em> pugai viLakkum pUm punalum Endhi thisaithisaiyil<\/em><br \/>\n<em> vEdhiyargaL senRu iRainjum vEnkatamE veN sangam<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Udhiya vAy mAl ugandha Ur<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>vagai aRu \u2013 cutting off other kinds, such as other deities and other means<br \/>\nnuN kELvi vAy vArgaL \u2013 those who have subtle knowledge through hearing<br \/>\nvEdhiyargaL \u2013 brAhmaNas<br \/>\nnALum \u2013 everyday<br \/>\npugai viLakkum \u2013 <em>dhUpam<\/em> (fragrant smoke, incense) and <em>dhIpam<\/em> (lamp)<br \/>\npUm punalum \u2013 flower and water<br \/>\nEndhi \u2013 holding<br \/>\nthisai thisaiyil \u2013 from all directions<br \/>\nsenRu \u2013 going to (thirumalai)<br \/>\niRainjum \u2013 worship<br \/>\nvEnkatamE \u2013 thiruvEnkatam!<br \/>\nveN sangam Udhiya vAy \u2013 having divine lips which blew the white coloured conch<br \/>\nmAl \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a><br \/>\nugandha \u2013 relished<br \/>\nUr &#8211; living place<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>vagai aRu nuN kELvi vAy vArgaL<\/strong> \u2013 those who have heard the fine aspects of vEdhas (sacred texts) which give out many varieties of benefits. krishNa says in <a href=\"http:\/\/githa.koyil.org\/index.php\/2-41\/\">SrI bhagavath gIthA 2-41<\/a> \u201c<em>vyavasAyAthmikA budhdhirEkEha kurunandhana | bahusAkhA hyananthAScha budhdhayO&#8217;vyavasAyinAm ||<\/em>\u201d (Oh arjuna! The knowledge about the truthfulness of <em>AthmasvarUpam<\/em> (basic nature of soul) will be focussed as it has as its goal only <em>mOkshapalam<\/em> (the result of attaining SrIvaikuNtam). The knowledge of those who are wavering will be having many types of offshoots and will be countless). vEdhas reveal not only countless results but also results of very low value such as longevity, progeny etc. If the mind is not steady, such people will take dip in sacred rivers similar to others who do so for attaining lowly results; similarly they will also offer prayers like others who pray for lowly results. But, in the case of those who are desirous of mOksham (liberation) their focus will be only on <em>mOksham<\/em>. The knowledge of such people &#8230;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>vagaiyaRu nuN kELvi<\/strong> \u2013 will be such that it will avoid results which are of varied types.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vAyvArgaL<\/strong> \u2013 brAhmaNas who have such knowledge<\/p>\n<p><strong>nALum pugai viLakkum pUm punalum Endhi<\/strong> \u2013 Since they have heard [vEdhas] well earlier, there will not be a need to hear again. They will get into the act of carrying out kainkaryam immediately. Since the entity which is to be attained and which helps in attaining it are both <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>, all the deeds which are carried out towards him will become kainkaryam. Since kainkaryam is very enjoyable, they will carry all the ingredients for worshipping emperumAn (such as sweet fragrance, lamp, flower, water etc) and reach thirumalai from various directions for the <em>brahmOthsavam<\/em> (a festival conducted over a period of 10 days, normally, to enable devotees to have <em>dharSan<\/em> (to see emperumAn) in different types of attires\/decorations).<\/p>\n<p><strong>vEdhiyargaL<\/strong> \u2013 who are these people who congregate for such festivals? They are those who have learnt the inner meanings of vEdham, the meaning of <em>praNavam<\/em> (this is a single syllable word , composed of three letters, which signifies the servitorship of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">jIvAthmAs<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>senRu iRainjum<\/strong> \u2013 isn\u2019t it the objective of learning the meanings of <em>praNavam<\/em> to reach thirumalai!<\/p>\n<p><strong>veN sangam Udhiya vAy mAl ugandha Ur<\/strong> \u2013 thiurmalai is the dhivyadhESam (sacred abode where <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> dwells) where kaNNapirAn (krishNa), who blew the pAnchajanya in mahAbhAratha war, resides.
