Thinking about this, he says \u201cwasn\u2019t this action carried out by you in order to attract the people of this world and to make them your own!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>muraNai vali tholaidhaRkAm enRE munnam<\/em><br \/>\n<em> tharaNi thanadhu AgaththAnE\u00a0 iraNiyanaip<\/em><br \/>\n<em> puNNirandha vaL ugirAl pon AzhikkaiyAl nI<\/em><br \/>\n<em> maNNirandhu koNda vagai<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>munnam \u2013 in earlier times itself<br \/>\ndharaNi thanadhu AgaththAnE \u2013 one who had presumed that the earth is his<br \/>\niraNiyanai \u2013 hiraNya kashyap<br \/>\npuN nirandha \u2013 to cause hurt by breaking<br \/>\nvaL ugirAl \u2013 with sharp nails<br \/>\npon \u2013 being resplendent<br \/>\nAzhi kaiyAl \u2013 with the divine hand holding chakkaram (divine disc)<br \/>\nnI \u2013 you<br \/>\nmaN irandhu koNda vagai \u2013 the way you begged for and obtained earth<br \/>\nmuraNai vali tholaidhaRkAm enRE \u2013 was it not to remove the <em>ahankAram<\/em> (egotism) and <em>mamakAram<\/em> (possessiveness) [of samsAris such as ourselves]!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>muraNai vali tholaidhaRkAm enRE<\/strong> \u2013 In SrI rAmAyaNam yudhdha kANdam 36-11 it says \u201c<em>dhvidhAbhajyEyamapi na namEyam thu kaSyachith<\/em>\u201d (even if I am cut into two, I will not worship anyone). In order to make such people who\u00a0 do not have humility in them [like rAvaNa in the above mentioned SlOkam], to be your own after removing their egotism, you were expectantly looking for them so that they would soften themselves and become your followers. This applies to be people like those mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/06\/thiruvaimozhi-2-9-9-yane-ennai\/\">thiruvAimozhi 2-9-9<\/a> \u201c<em>yAnE endhanadhE enRirundhEn<\/em>\u201d (I remained as if I were everything and everything were mine).<\/p>\n<p><strong>munnam dharaNi thanadhu AgaththAnE<\/strong> \u2013 hiraNyakashyap who thought that your property, the earth, was his.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thAne<\/strong> \u2013 there was no need for someone to give it in writing to him. He thought so himself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>puN nirandha vaLLugirAl<\/strong> \u2013 with the aid of sharp nails cut [hiraNyakashyap into two]. Or, we could consider this as \u201cwith the help of sharp nails, tore the injured heart of hiraNyakashyap\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>munnam dharaNi thanadhu AgaththAnE <\/strong>\u2013 going to the <em>yAgasAlai<\/em> where mahAbali, who thought that the whole world was his,\u00a0 was carrying out rituals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>pon AzhikkaiyAl nI maN irandhu koNda vagai<\/strong> \u2013 the way you went begging for alms with the hand that held the disc which assists you in protecting the worlds<\/p>\n<p><strong>muraNai vali tholaidhaRkAm enRE<\/strong> \u2013 you, who are the leader of all the worlds, went like a mendicant to the place where mahAbali was carrying out the rituals. <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/poigai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> says \u201cWasn\u2019t this to make people admire your simplicity and melt down consequently!\u201d Wasn\u2019t it to destroy their ego which was like a fortress around them! While mahAbali felt happy that he was giving away in alms to you, the worlds which were actually yours but were his as per his thinking, you also received them from him thinking as to why you should not receive it from him even if he thinks that the worlds are his. Just like janaka maharAja thought that sIthAp pirAtti (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sri-mahalakshmi\/\">mahAlakshmi<\/a> who never leaves you even for a moment) was his daughter and offered her hand in marriage to you, mahAbali also thought that the worlds were his and was offering them to you.
