Alternatively, one could construe that AzhwAr is wondering whether those who do not follow the means prescribed in the SAsthras can attain him.<\/p>\n<p>Let us enjoy the pAsuram and its meanings.<\/p>\n<p><em>imaiyAdha kaNNAl iruL agala nOkki<\/em><br \/>\n<em> amaiyAp poRi pulangaL aindhum namaiyAmal<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Agaththu aNaippAr aNaivarE Ayira vAy<\/em><br \/>\n<em> nAgaththu aNaiyAn nagar<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>imaiyAdha kaNNAl \u2013 with the inner eye\u00a0[heart] which does not have any contraction of knowledge<br \/>\niruL agala \u2013 the darkness (of ignorance) to leave<br \/>\nnOkki \u2013 seeing the svarUpam (basic nature) of self as well as of <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a><br \/>\namaiyA \u2013 uncontrollable<br \/>\npoRi pulangaL aindhum \u2013 the five sensory organs such as eyes etc and the five matters such as sound, taste etc [connected to the five sensory organs]<br \/>\nnamaiyAmal \u2013 even if not controlled<br \/>\nAgaththu aNaippAr \u2013 those who think of emperumAn [when he, of his own volition, comes with causeless mercy]<br \/>\nAyira vay nAgaththu aNaiyAn \u2013 emperumAn who is lying on the mattress of AdhiSEshan with thousand hoods<br \/>\nnagar \u2013 his dwelling place SrIvaikuNtam<br \/>\naNaivarE \u2013 will attain<\/p>\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>iamiyAdha kaNNAl<\/strong> \u2013 here, the word <em>kaN<\/em> [eye] refers to the mind. Mind is the eye which does not blink [unlike the external eye]. One should refer to the external eye when one is talking of removing the darkness outside. When one is referring to removing ignorance, one should talk about the inner eye or mind. SrI vishNu dharmam 275-2 says \u201c<em>manasA thu viSudhdhEna<\/em>\u201d(he could be seen only with the pure mind). <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>, in periya thiruvandhAdhi 28 says \u201c<em>katkaNNAl kANAdha avvuruvai nenjennum utkaNNEl kANum uNarndhu<\/em>\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> cannot be seen with the external eyes but only with the internal eye).<\/p>\n<p><strong>iruL agala nOkki<\/strong> \u2013 thinking in such a way that <em>avidhyA<\/em> (ignorance) etc would leave. Knowing self and <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> (true nature) after the darkness of ignorance is removed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>amaiyAp poRi pulangaL aindhum<\/strong> \u2013 the five sensory organs of ears, mouth, eyes, nose and body and the five matters of sound, taste, light, smell and feel, which cannot be controlled and which cannot be satiated. The word <em>poRi<\/em> also means trap and in this case, it would convey the meaning that we get trapped by the five matters of sound, taste etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>namaiyAmal<\/strong> \u2013 without control. In other words, the sensory organs such as ears etc reaching their targets.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Agaththu aNaippAr aNaivarE<\/strong> \u2013 even if they are not able to control their sensory organs, having the knowledge that they are subservient to <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>. Those who keep him in their hearts will reach paramapadham (SrIvaikuNtam). Alternatively, if one considers the word <em>aNaivarE<\/em> as conveying the meaning \u2013 will such people reach emperumAn? \u2013 the meaning will change as: can those who keep emperumAn in their hearts but are unable to control their sensory organs, \u00a0reach paramapadham [the answer is that they cannot]. In the first case, all that is required is not to shun emperumAn when he himself comes and showers his grace [on the jIvAthmA].<\/p>\n<p><strong>AyiravAy nAgaththu aNaiyAn nagar<\/strong> \u2013 it is said that the entity attained by mukthAthmA (liberated from material realm) is <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> who is lying on the 1000 hooded <em>ananthAzhvAn<\/em> (AdhiSEshan). This same has been mentioned in <em>paryankavidhyai <\/em>also. The service rendered by one<em> ananthAzhvAn<\/em> is the sum total of all the services by all the others in SrIvaikuNtam.<\/p>\n<p><strong>nagar<\/strong> \u2013 as <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> mentioned in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/05\/thiruvaimozhi-2-8-4-pulan-aindhum\/\">thiruvAimozhi 2.8.4<\/a> \u201c<em>nalamantham illadhOr nAdu<\/em>\u201d (it is a unique place where there is no end to kainkaryam ). Instead of calling it as a <em>nAdu<\/em> (country) <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/poigai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> is referring to it as <em>nagar<\/em> (city).
