He has announced to everyone that he is devoted to his followers by showering his grace on gajEndhra [the elephant in distress]\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p><em>iRaiyum nilanum iru visumbum kARRum<\/em><br \/>\n<em> aRai pulanum sem thIyum AvAn piRaimaruppin<\/em><br \/>\n<em> paim kaN mAl yAnai padu thuyaram kAththaLiththa<\/em><br \/>\n<em> sem kaN mAl kaNdAy theLi<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>iRaiyum \u2013 he is the paramapadhanAthan (the Lord of SrIvaikuNtam)<br \/>\nnilanum \u2013 he is also the bhUmi (earth)<br \/>\niru visumbum \u2013 he is also the well spread skies<br \/>\nkARRum \u2013 he is also the wind<br \/>\naRai pulanum \u2013 he is also the oceans which keep making noise continuously<br \/>\nsem thIyum \u2013 he is also the red hot fire<br \/>\nAvAn \u2013 he is all of these<br \/>\npiRai maruppil \u2013 tusks in the shape of the moon\u2019s crescent<br \/>\npaim kaN \u2013 having beautiful eyes<br \/>\nmAl yAnai \u2013 huge elephant<br \/>\npadu thuyaram \u2013 its deep sorrow<br \/>\nkAththu \u2013 removing it<br \/>\naLiththa \u2013 protecting it<br \/>\nsem kaN mAl kaNdAy \u2013 behold the <em>paramapurusha<\/em> (supreme entity) with lotus like eyes<br \/>\ntheLi \u2013 (Oh my heart!) know this well<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>iRaiyum<\/strong> \u2013 just as river kAviri flows transgressing both sides, without any shores, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> also has a similar quality, being the paramapadhanAthan (Lord of SrivaikuNtam).<\/p>\n<p><strong>nilanum iru visumbum kARRum aRai punalum sem thIyum AvAn<\/strong> \u2013 by referring to the five elements, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/poigai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> thinks of him as having pervaded all over the universe. Thus he owns the entire leelA vibhUthi (materialistic realm). By mentioning him as paramapadhanAthan in the previous verse, AzhwAr says he owns SrIvaikuNtam (spiritual realm) as well. Thus he owns both spiritual and material realms. Could there be anything more than these to draw the boundary of wealth!<\/p>\n<p><strong>piRai maruppil paingaN mAl yAnai<\/strong> \u2013 the elephant has its tusks in the shape of the crescent and beauty in the eyes, typical of elephants. Being in rut, without knowing the truth, it entered the pond and got caught by the crocodile.<\/p>\n<p><strong>paduthuyaram kAththaLiththa<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> rescued the elephant gajEndhran from the crocodile\u2019s grip and took the flower that the elephant wanted to submit to him, on his divine feet, thus removing its sorrow [that it could not submit the flower at the divine feet of emperumAn].<\/p>\n<p><strong>paduthuyaram<\/strong> \u2013 it was a sorrow that even the elephant had to feel hurt<\/p>\n<p><strong>sengaN mAl kaNdAy theLi<\/strong> \u2013 isn\u2019t <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> such that he clearly manifests his quality of vAthsalyam (motherly affection) towards his followers through his eyes and is loving towards them! [Oh heart] know this well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>sengaN mAl<\/strong> \u2013 the reddish eyes denote that he showers his vAthsalyam on his followers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>mAl<\/strong> \u2013 one who has deep love. Here it denotes the love with which he came to save gajEndhran [the elephant] with his yellow dress worn from waist down and the crown on his head in utterly dishevelled condition. He is very simple towards his followers and isn\u2019t he the one who always removes their hurdles!<\/p>\n<p><strong>theLi<\/strong> \u2013 Oh my heart! Please know this. While <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> told <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/poigai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> \u201c<em>mA Sucha:<\/em>\u201d (don\u2019t feel sad) [SrI bhagavath gIthA 18-66], <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/poigai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> tells his heart now \u201c<em>mA Sucha:<\/em>\u201d In order to get emperumAn\u2019s grace there is no need to search out and go to his place. It is enough to keep the door to the mind open, just as people open the doors to their houses for inviting someone, and inform emperumAn of our acceptance [of him]. If he doesn\u2019t come by himself, is there any other way to get him who is incomparable?
