Did I not lose him when he came very close?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Let us go through the pAsuram and its meanings.<\/p>\n<p><em>adiyum padi kadappath thOL thisai mEl sella<\/em><br \/>\n<em> mudiyum visumbu aLandhadhenbar vadi ugirAl<\/em><br \/>\n<em> IrndhAn iraNiyanadhu Agam irum siRaippuL<\/em><br \/>\n<em> UrndhAn ulagu aLandhanAnRu<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Word by Word Meanings<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>vadi ugirAl \u2013 with sharp nails<br \/>\niraNiyanadhu Agam \u2013 iraNiyan (hiraNyakashyap)\u2019s heart<br \/>\nIrndhan \u2013 tore apart<br \/>\nirum siRai puL \u2013 huge bird garuda with massive wings<br \/>\nUrndhan \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> straddled<br \/>\nulagu aLandha nAnRu \u2013 on the day when he measured the worlds<br \/>\nadiyum \u2013 (his) divine feet<br \/>\npadi kadappa \u2013 measured the worlds<br \/>\nthOL \u2013 the divine shoulders<br \/>\nthisai mEl sella \u2013 went beyond the directions<br \/>\nmudiyum \u2013 divine crown<br \/>\nvisumbu \u2013 skies (ether)<br \/>\naLandhadhu \u2013 pervaded<br \/>\nenbar \u2013 so will say (gyAnis, the knowledgeable)<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>adiyum padi kadappa<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/poigai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> was asked, \u201cis it possible to enjoy <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> staying in this world, as we wish? Should we not enjoy him only after going to SrIvaikuNtam?\u201d AzhwAr responds \u201cwhen his mercy flowed like flood on this earth, did I get it? Did I not lose it even then?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>adiyum padi kadappa<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> says in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2017\/01\/thiruvaimozhi-4-3-6-kala-chakkaraththodu\/\">thiruvAimozhi 4-3-6<\/a> \u201c<em>kOlamAm en sennikku un kamalamanna \u00a0kazhalE<\/em>\u201d (your lotus like divine foot is like a decoration on my head). In the same manner, AzhwAr says that the earth also donned his divine foot, which he likes immensely, on its head, as a decoration. Alternatively, we can say that the soft divine foot, which the nithyasUris[permanent dwellers of SrIvaikuNtam] wear on their heads, had to measure earth which contains hardened forests and streams.<\/p>\n<p><strong>padi kadappa<\/strong> \u2013 the divine feet which we had to go and worship, came on their own and measured the earth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>thOL thisai mEl sella<\/strong> \u2013 the divine shoulders, which would normally be embracing pirAtti (bhUmidhEvi, here), went past the directions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>mudiyum visumbu aLandhadhu<\/strong> \u2013 the divine crown went till the wall of the universe. The divine crown measured the immeasurable skies [ethereal layers]. Just as great warriors will win over enemies from the same place where they are standing, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> also measured the worlds standing in the same place and won them over.<\/p>\n<p><strong>enbar<\/strong> \u2013 I have heard gyAnis (knowledgeable people) say that emperumAn did this. But I did not get to see this! <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/poigai-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> laments, \u201cwhen the divine feet came on their own and stood over my head also, where had I gone?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>vadi ugirAl IrndhAn iraNiyadhu Agam<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> tore apart the rough body of <em>iraNiyan<\/em> (hiraNyakashyap).<\/p>\n<p><strong>irum siRaip puL UrndhAn<\/strong> \u2013 emperumAn is soft and straddles <em>periya thiruvadi<\/em> (alternative name for garuda)[in our sampradhAyam, hanumAn is called as thiruvadi (divine feet) and garuda is called as periya thiruvadi (huge divine feet)].<\/p>\n<p><strong>ulagu aLandha nAnRu <\/strong>\u2013 it is not surprising that I did not get to see <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> when he went to annihilate the enemy of his devotee at one place [reference to emperumAn killing hiraNakashyap to protect prahlAdha].
