previous (vaNmaiyinAlum than)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Introduction (given by <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\"><strong>maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/strong><\/a><strong>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As said in the previous pAsuram as \u2018<em>uNmai nal gyAnam\u2019\u00b8<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\">amudhanAr<\/a> talks about how\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> defeated the other philosophies that reject or misinterpret vEdhas which were hurdles to the truth; (in this pAsuram) he is happy thinking about how <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> achieved this effortlessly compared to <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">eeSvaran<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introduction (given by <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/04\/08\/pillai-lokam-jiyar\/\"><strong>piLLailOkam jIyar<\/strong><\/a><strong>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the previous pAsuram \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\">amudhanAr<\/a> explained about how <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>, by the act of utmost kindness, which is by his generosity, had divined the true knowledge to all the sentient entities; in this pAsuram \u2013 those wrong people not having ability to differentiate between truth and falsehood, and not following His commands, <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">sarvESvaran<\/a> (lord of all) took many incarnations and many efforts, and using the disc in his hand, destroyed them, with sadness in Him; unlike that, (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) had won each time based on apt thoughts\/ideas, the ill-knowledgeable misinforming mobbing enemies of the knowledge he advised,\u00a0 \u2013 saying so, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\">amudhanAr<\/a> is celebrating such greatness of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>thErAr maRaiyin thiRam enRu mAyavan theeyavaraik<\/em><br \/>\n<em>kUr Azhi koNdu kuRaippadhu koNdal anaiya vaNmai <\/em><br \/>\n<em>ErAr guNaththu em irAmAnusan avvezhil maRaiyil<\/em><br \/>\n<em>sErAdhavaraich chidhaippadhu appOdhu oru sindhai seydhE\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211; <\/em>\u00a0\u00a074<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/yourlisten.com\/sarathy.thothathri\/ramanusa-nurranthadhi-74\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Listen<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"width: 100%;\" src=\"\/\/yourlisten.com\/embed\/html5?17634139\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Word by word meaning (given by <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/mamunigal\/\"><strong>maNavALa mAmunigaL<\/strong><\/a><strong>)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>mAyavan \u2013 <\/em>He having wonderfully great intellect and power,<br \/>\n<em>thErAr enRu \u2013 <\/em>(seeing) that they are are not being according to<br \/>\n<em>thiRam &#8211; <\/em>the nature<br \/>\n<em>maRaiyin \u2013 <\/em>of vEdham which is eternal, authorless, distinguished in comparison to the other pramANams such as perception and inference, and is most trustworthy, and reminds sentient entities about good and bad,\u00a0 and is in the form of instructions\/commands,<br \/>\n<em>kuRaippadhu \u2013 <\/em>divined His cutting of<br \/>\n<em>theeyavarai \u2013 <\/em>such very bad ones having the conduct of crossing the limit of His commands\/instructions,<br \/>\n<em>kUr Azhi koNdu \u2013\u00a0 <\/em>using the sharp divine disc;<br \/>\n<em>em \u2013 <\/em>our lord, that is<br \/>\n<em>irAmAnusan \u2013 <\/em>(such) <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>,<br \/>\n<em>kONdal anaiya \u2013 <\/em>who is helpful to every one, and so can be compared to clouds,<br \/>\n<em>vaNmai \u2013 <\/em>he having such generosity,<br \/>\n<em>guNaththu \u2013 <\/em>having auspicious qualities<br \/>\n<em>ErAr \u2013 <\/em>which are unsurpassed,<br \/>\n<em>sidhaippadhu \u2013 <\/em>he divines his destroying<br \/>\n<em>sErAdhavarai <\/em>\u00a0&#8211; of those, who, due to their thought of ignoring vEdhas as authoritative, and having faith in their incorrect interpretations, having the state of not in harmony with the truth<br \/>\n<em>av enzhil maRaiyil \u00ad\u2013 <\/em>with such distinguished vEdham,<br \/>\n<em>appodhu oru sindhai seydhE \u2013 <\/em>by using unique reasoning proofs each and every time.<\/p>\n<p>Oh what a power this is!\u00a0 &#8211; is the thought.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>kuRaippadhu \u2013 <\/em>cutting off; \u00a0\u00a0<em>sidhaippadhu \u2013 <\/em>destroying;<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>appOdhu oru sindhai \u2013<\/em> is about thinking through (the arguments\/solution) uniquely at each point in time, every time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>maRaiyin thiRam \u2013\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong>Being eternal as said in \u2018<em>vAchA virUba nithyayA\u2019<\/em> (the words that is this vEdham is eternal)<em>, <\/em>and as said in \u2018<em>aSEsha SEmushee dhOsha dhUshitha mAlinya vinir muktha vEdhAkya akShara rASErEva\u2019<\/em> (~ not having lowly knowledge, vEdham having such distinguished words)<em>, <\/em>not having blemishes like misunderstanding, negligence, etc., or being written by a person,\u00a0 but instead [it] is being authorless, and because of that it is eternal and excellent\/unobjectionable, and as said in \u2018<em>dharmagya samaya: pramANam vEdhaScha\u201d <\/em>(~ the thoughts of learned persons is authoritative reference, vEdham too is authoritative reference), it is being the most authoritative reference, and most distinguished from other references like perception, inference, etc., and as said in \u2018<em>SAsthrayOnithvAth <\/em>[SrI bAshyam \u2013 3<sup>rd<\/sup> <em>adhikaraNAm<\/em>]<em>\u2019 <\/em>(brahmam is shown by SAsthram (and cannot be explained by perception or by inference))<em>, <\/em>and in \u2018<em>harthum thama: sath asath eecha vivEkthumeeSO mAnam pradheepamiva kAruNikO dhadhAthi\u2019<\/em> (to remove the darkness, and to show what is true and what is false, emperumAn with kindness comes with eagerness, like the light from the lamp, and gives SAsthram)<em>, <\/em><\/p>\n<p>that vEdham is in the form of commands\/instructions, and helps clear about truth and falsehood, and as said in \u2018<em>mAthA pithru sahasrEbhya: vathsala tharam SAsthram\u2019<\/em> (SAsthram gives us more care compared to what is given by thousand mothers and fathers), it is being most trustworthy,\u00a0 and as said in \u2018<em>Sruthi smruthir mamaiva AgyA\u2019 <\/em>(vEdha vEdhAnthams are my commands), <em>\u00a0<\/em>being His commands\/instructions \u2013 vEdham of such form; instructions in the form of distinguishing what are to be abandoned and what are to be accepted\/followed;<\/p>\n<p>that is, ways as taught by vEdha purushan, \u2018<em>sathyam vadha dharmam chara, svAdhyAyAnmA pramadha:, AchAryAya priyamdhanamAhruthya prajAthanthum mAvyavachchEthsee:\u2019<\/em>, (speak truth; behave as per dharmas specified by SAsthram; practice\/recite vEdham as per your <em>varNam<\/em>; do what is joyful for your AchAryan, etc.)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>thErAr<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; is \u2013 they don\u2019t learn and conduct themselves accordingly;<\/p>\n<p>As said in \u2018<em>idham asthee idham abimE bhavishyathi punardhanam \u2013 asau maya hatha: Sathru: hanishyE cha aparAnapi <\/em>[SrI bhagavath gIthA \u2013 16.13]<em>\u2019 <\/em>(I got this wealth using my effort; I can again earn it later; this enemy was killed by me; in the same way other enemies can be killed by me), in that way<em>, <\/em>that those like <em>rAvaNan, hiraNyan<\/em>, et al, went in wrong ways even while well versed in vEdham \u2013<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>mAyavan \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>(emperumAn) Being the source of all the worlds, was born as human, the kind of species that can be eaten by rAkshasas, He gave liberation to a bird (<em>periya udaiyAr (jatAyu)<\/em>), fell on the feet of an animal (<em>sugreevan<\/em>), having the army of monkeys and as a group bridged the sea,\u00a0 appeared in the form of <em>narasimha<\/em> (human and lion) which no one has ever seen or heard of \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">sarvESvaran<\/a> (lord of all) having many such wonderful acts.\u00a0 (<em>alankruthya<\/em> <em>sirachchEdham<\/em> (decorating an animal and cutting its head in sacrifice) &#8211; here praising emperumAn only to put Him down comparing to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>theeyavarai \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>As said in \u2018<em>AgyAchchEdhee mama dhrOhee\u2019<\/em>, (those who do not follow my commands are my enemies), the bad ones who are complete offenders of His commands\/instructions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>kUr Azhi koNdu \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Described as \u2018<em>vadivAr sOdhi\u2019, <\/em>and, \u2018<em>spurath sahasrAra Sikadhi theevram sudharSanam bhAskara kOti thulyam\u2019 <\/em>(divine disc that is sudharSanam, with a brightness of crore suns) <em>\u2013<\/em>\u00a0 using such sharp divine disc \u2013<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>kuRaippadhu \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>As said in \u2018<em>surathvishAm prANa vinASi vishNOSchakram\u2019<\/em> (~vishNu\u2019s disc that destroys the enemies of devotees)<em>, <\/em>wearing the divine disc that can completely destroy enemies of his devotees, and using that disc His killing <em>Sainthavan<\/em> by making day as night, and as said in \u2018<em>sAmARu avanai nee eNNich chakkaraththAl thalai koNday <\/em>[periyAzhvAr thirumozhi \u2013 2.7.8]<em>\u2019 <\/em>(as you thought about how to kill him (<em>seemAlika<\/em>), you used the divine disc and cut his head such that he dies), killing <em>seemAlika<\/em> with it;\u00a0 <em>kuRaippadhu<\/em> \u2013 cutting.<\/p>\n<p>As said in \u2018<em>ajAyamAnO bahudhA vijAyathE\u2019<\/em> (He who is unborn, would be born in many ways (in incarnations))<em>, <\/em>and in \u2018<em>parithrANAya sAdhUnAm vinASAya cha dhushkruthAm \u2013 dharma samsththApanArththAya sambhavAmi yugE yugE\u2019 <\/em>(~ I incarnate in every yugam to save the devotees and to destroy their enemies), and in \u2018<em>mARi mARip pala piRappum piRandhu<\/em> [<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/04\/thiruvaimozhi-2-6-8-mari-mari\/\">thiruvAimozhi \u2013 2.6.8<\/a>]<em>\u2019<\/em> (while (jeevAthmAs) being born again and again in many (types of) births)<em>, <\/em>\u00a0Him also taking countless births similar to worldly people (as arjunan also doubted whether this is all same with Him and got clarified that it is not due to karma that He is born, but it is due to his kindness\/wish),<\/p>\n<p>and holding <em>thiruvAzhi AzhvAn <\/em>(divine disc) in his divine hands, having him (<em>thiruvAzhi AzhvAn<\/em>) as His identity, is to establish dharmA as per the words of vEdhas, to protect the sentient who follow His commands (through vEdhas), and to destroy the malignant ones who are enemies of it who cross His commands; It is said too, \u2018<em>bahiranthasthamachchEdhi jyOthir vandhE sudharSanam \u2013 EnAvyAhatha sankalpam vasthu lakShmeedhram vidhu:\u2019 <\/em>(I bow to sudharSanam (divine disc) due to which emperumAn who is the husband of lakshmI, is present with will)<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/emperumAn_with_chakram.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13551\" src=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/emperumAn_with_chakram.jpg\" alt=\"emperuman_with_chakram\" width=\"297\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/emperumAn_with_chakram.jpg 297w, https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/emperumAn_with_chakram-223x300.jpg 223w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 297px) 100vw, 297px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\">amudhanAr<\/a> says, even though emperumAn had to take so much effort to remove the enemies, it is not needed for <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> to take such level of efforts.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>koNdal anaiya vaNmai \u00ad<\/em> &#8211; <\/strong>being happy to help every one by accepting them in to the fold without seeing their ineligibility &#8211; in many pAsurams <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\">amudhanAr<\/a> keeps praising (only) this generosity of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> (compared to other qualities), you see!<\/p>\n<p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) having generosity of going to the place of people and helping them, like the rainy cloud that would pour without distinction of land or water.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>ErAr guNaththu \u2013 <\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) having the qualities of <em>vAthsalyam <\/em>(motherly affection), <em>sauSeelyam<\/em> (good morals), etc., which are most enjoyable,<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>em irAmAnusan<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> who is \u00a0the lord of ours, and we who are his servants, which is due to him advising us and letting us learn about these greatness;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>av ezhil maRaiyil &#8211;\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong>its (vEdhas) distinguished attributes are as mentioned earlier, and is also having unbounded glory, and what is said as in \u2018<em>vEdha SAsthrAth param nAsthi\u2019<\/em> (there is no better SAsthram (instructions\/treatise) other than vEdham)<em>, <\/em>and, \u2018<em>navEdhAnthAchchAsthram<\/em> [rahasya thraya sAram]<em>\u2019<\/em> (there is no SAsthram than vEdham, (and there is nothing which gives security\/happiness than <em>dhvayam<\/em>))<em>, <\/em>\u00a0that is, in vEdham which is <em>nissamAbhdhyadhikam<\/em> (there is nothing equal or better; <em>n<\/em>one of the kind);<em>\u00a0 <\/em>that is to say, in the path shown by such vEdhas;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>sErAdhavarai \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>not taking refuge (in such path); \u00a0due to rejecting authoritative reference, and having faith in wrong meanings, such people who are not fully set on the correct path;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>sidhaippadhu \u2013\u00a0<\/em><\/strong> destroying them (i.e., their wrong thoughts etc.,) and make them lose.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>appOdhu oru sindhai seydhE \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>at each time of such happening itself (for example, at that same instance when some adhvaithi comes for a debate);<\/p>\n<p>those who detracted by saying wrong meanings, without knowing the inner\/intented meanings of ones like \u2018<em>sa EnAn brahma gamayathi\u2019, <\/em>\u00a0\u2018<em>bramha vEdha bramhaiva bhavathi\u2019 <\/em>(learns about brahmam; becomes brahmam itself (empeurmAnAr showed that it is \u2013 <em>brahma <u>iva<\/u> bhavathi<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\"><em>jeevAthmA<\/em><\/a> becomes \u2018<em>like\u2019 <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">brahmam<\/a> with many of His auspicious qualities)<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For the phrases of <em>Sruthi <\/em>that is \u2018<em>praNava: dhanu: SarO hi AthmA bramha thallakShyamuchyathE \u2013 apramaththEna vEththavyam Saravath thanmayO bhavEth<\/em> [muNdakOpanishath]<em>\u2019 <\/em>(praNavam is the big bow, arrow is AthmA, target is the brahmam, this shows how AchAryan teaches how to target brahmam; that arrow would reach and become brahmam (adhvaithis said \u2018<em>thanmayO\u2019 <\/em>implies that AthmA <em>becomes<\/em> brahmam) (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> thought about it immediately and showed that an arrow cannot become the target itself)),<\/p>\n<p>thus using words of thought about answers, at that same instance, and every time, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> condemned the wrong meanings that they said, and got them rooted out;<\/p>\n<p>The divine words about <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> too is \u2018<em>sva sidhdhAntha dhvAntha sththira kruthaka\u00a0 dhur vAdhi parishath dhivAbheetha prEkShA dhinakara samudhdhAna parusha:\u2019<\/em> (~ <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> the sun rose to remove the darkness that is the bad arguments of others who are hurdles to the philosophy of vEdhas he shows).<\/p>\n<p>Thus, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\">amudhanAr<\/a> celebrated the greatness of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> who effortlessly won the enemies compared to <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">sarvESvaran<\/a> (lord of all) who holds all the powers.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>From AzhwAr thirunagari SrI u.vE. vidhwAn thirumalai nallAn chakravarththi rAmakrishNa iyengAr\u2019s \u2018<em>amudha virundhu<\/em>\u2019 :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>mAyavan \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>emperumAn possesses wonderful power and intellect. But those qualities could not win those who did not follow the path of vEdhas. He had to use the sharp disc in His hand for that. <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\">amudhanAr<\/a> is lowering the ability of emperumAn: cutting those people using the disc is not due to emperumAn\u2019s ability \u2013 it is due to the sharpness of disc\u00a0 &#8211; this is implied by saying <strong>\u2018<em>kUr Azhi<\/em> koNdu\u2019<em> .<\/em><\/strong>(using sharp disc). Refer to \u2018<em>karudhum idam porudhu kainninRa chakkaraththan <\/em>[<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> \u2013 10.6.8]\u2019 (One having divine disc which goes to fight based on understanding emperumAn\u2019s intent), so it destroys due to its sharpness, and makes it appear that it was just an instrument and it was <em>mAyavan<\/em> who cut, and so gets good name for <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">sarvESvaran<\/a> (lord of all).<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>av ezhil maRai <\/em>\u2013 <\/strong><em>ezhil<\/em> -&gt;
