But that ultimate goal is attained by first having gyAnam (knowledge). That knowledge is given by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>. That is why <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>&#8216;s mercy is greater than everything else&#8221;. prApthi (attainment of goal) is dependent on gyAnam (knowledge). But gyAnam is not dependent on the goal (i.e., knowledge does not occur after attaining the goal &#8211; it happens before hand).<\/li>\n<li>In the <a title=\"kaNNinuN chiRu thAmbu 4 \u2013 nanmaiyAl\" href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/?p=1322\">4th pAsuram<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/17\/madhurakavi-azhwar\/\">madhurakavi AzhwAr<\/a> expressed that he has many defects. In the <a title=\"kaNNinuN chiRu thAmbu 5 \u2013 nambinEn\" href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/?p=1331\">5th pAsuram<\/a>, he explained his defects to be of two types (considering <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">AthmA<\/a> as independent, and being attached to worldly pleasures). In the <a title=\"kaNNinuN chiRu thAmbu 7 \u2013 kaNdu koNdu\" href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/?p=1335\">7th pAsuram<\/a>, he mentioned that <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> removed all his sins\/hurdles. In this pAsuram, he explains how <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> dispelled his sins\/hurdles.<\/li>\n<li>Considering body as soul (not knowing difference between soul\/body), and having attachment towards worldly pleasures (which is not fitting for the soul) are the hurdles that are removed through true knowledge about <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">AthmA<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> and their relationship (this is called adhyAthma gyAnam\/vidhyA). This knowledge will stop the accumulation of karmA. The already accumulated karmA will be removed by <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>. AchAryan will remove the desires for more karmA. <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> will remove existing karmA. <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> removes karmA due to AchAryan giving the true knowledge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u0b85\u0bb0\u0bc1\u0bb3\u0bcd \u0b95\u0bca\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bbe\u0b9f\u0bc1 \u0bae\u0b9f\u0bbf\u0baf\u0bb5\u0bb0\u0bbf\u0ba9\u0bcd \u0baa\u0bc1\u0bb1<br \/>\n\u0b85\u0bb0\u0bc1\u0bb3\u0bbf\u0ba9\u0bbe\u0ba9\u0bb5\u0bcd\u0bb5\u0bb0\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bb1\u0bc8\u0baf\u0bbf\u0ba9\u0bcd \u0baa\u0bca\u0bb0\u0bc1\u0bb3\u0bcd<br \/>\n\u0b85\u0bb0\u0bc1\u0bb3\u0bcd \u0b95\u0bca\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bbe\u0baf\u0bbf\u0bb0\u0bae\u0bbf\u0ba9\u0bcd \u0ba4\u0bae\u0bbf\u0bb4\u0bcd \u0baa\u0bbe\u0b9f\u0bbf\u0ba9\u0bbe\u0ba9\u0bcd<br \/>\n\u0b85\u0bb0\u0bc1\u0bb3\u0bcd \u0b95\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bc0\u0bb0\u0bbf\u0bb5\u0bcd\u0bb5\u0bc1\u0bb2\u0b95\u0bbf\u0ba9\u0bbf\u0bb2\u0bcd \u0bae\u0bbf\u0b95\u0bcd\u0b95\u0ba4\u0bc7.<\/p>\n<p><em>aruL koNdAdum adiyavar inbuRa<\/em><br \/>\n<em>aruLinAn avvarumaRaiyin poruL<\/em><br \/>\n<em>aruL koNdu Ayiram in thamizhppAdinAn<\/em><br \/>\n<em>aruL kaNdIr ivvulaginil mikkathE<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>word-by-word meanings<\/strong><br \/>\naruL koNdAdum &#8211; glorifying <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s mercy<br \/>\nadiyavar &#8211; bhakthas &#8211; devotees<br \/>\ninbuRa &#8211; to relish<br \/>\na aru maRaiyin poruL &#8211; essence of that rare (difficult to acquire\/learn) vEdham<br \/>\naruLinAn &#8211; he blessed<br \/>\naruL koNdu &#8211; with great mercy<br \/>\nin thamizh &#8211; in beautiful thamizh language<br \/>\nAyiram &#8211; thiruvAimozhi 1000 pAsurams<br \/>\npAdinAn &#8211; compiled\/sung<br \/>\naruL kaNdIr &#8211; it is purely his mercy only<br \/>\ni ulaginil &#8211; in this world<br \/>\nmikkathu &#8211; is great (greater than anything else)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simple translation:<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> revealed the essence of vEdham for the pleasure of the devotees who glorify <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>, out of great mercy, compiled the 1000 pAsurams of <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a>. This mercy of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> is very great in this world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Highlights from <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/14\/nanjiyar-english\/\">nanjIyar<\/a>&#8216;s vyAkyAnam:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Being blissful is the nature of devotees. Contemplating the grace of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>, the mukthas are always blissful as explained in mahAbhAratham sAnthi parvam 358.73 &#8220;<em>hrushtA<\/em>:&#8221; (mukthAthmAs are always worshipping <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> and being blissful like the ones in swEtha dhvIpam).<\/li>\n<li>Being gIthAchAryan, <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> revealed the most confidential principles of vEdham to uplift the ones who have even little bit inclination. Whatever was concealed by vEdham, he mercifully revealed them in gIthai. <strong>Note: nanjIyar alone attributes first 2 lines to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> revealing the principles of vEdham through gIthai. In all other vyAkyAnams, the pAsuram is fully attributed to <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> explained gIthai for the ones who are qualified to learn vEdham.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> explained the principles even for the unqualified ones.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> revealed it for the ones who were assembled in the battle field (only few benefited). <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> revealed it for the benefit of all as mentioned in thiruvaimozhi 1.5.11 &#8220;<em>pAlEy thamizhar isaikArar paththar paravumum Ayiram<\/em>&#8221; (thamizh speaking persons, musicians\/poets, devotees &#8211; all take refuge in these 1000 pAsurams)\u00a0 and in thiruvAimozhi 9.4.9 &#8220;<em>thoNdarkkamudhuNNach chol mAlaigaL<\/em>&#8221; (garlands made of nectarean words for the pleasure of devotees).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Highlights from <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/16\/nampillai-english\/\">nampiLLai<\/a>&#8216;s eedu vyAkyAnam:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>aruL koNdAdum adiyavar<\/em> &#8211; those who glorify <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s mercy like <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> in thiruvAimozhi 8.8.3 said &#8220;<em>athuvum avanathu innaruL<\/em>&#8221; (that is also his mercy only) and in thiruvAimozhi 10.6.1 &#8220;<em>aruL peRuvAr adiyAr<\/em>&#8221; (the devotees are blessed by <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>). Other <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/azhwars\/\">AzhwArs<\/a> are also like him only.<\/li>\n<li><em>aruL koNdu<\/em> &#8211; with mercy &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> did not sing on his own (whatever he felt like singing)- he sung based on the mercy of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> as said in thiruvAimozhi 1.1.1 &#8220;<em>mayarvaRa madhinalam aruLinan<\/em>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> blessed me blemishless knowledge\/devotion). As explained in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi <\/a>7.9.4 &#8220;<em>ennAgiyE thapputhalinRith thanaik kavi thAn solli<\/em>&#8221; (Through me, <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> sung the glories of himself without any defect) &#8211; not only others, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> himself became blissful after compiling these pAsurams.<\/li>\n<li><em>inthamizh pAdinAn<\/em> &#8211; even though he is giving the most complicated knowledge, he gave in such sweet thamizh language.<\/li>\n<li><em>ivvulaginil mikkathE<\/em> &#8211; greater than\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">chith (sentients)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/09\/thathva-thrayam-achith-what-is-matter\/\">achith (insentients)<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">Iswara<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>) thathvams (entities).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Highlights from <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/10\/05\/periyavachan-pillai-english\/\">periyavAchchAn piLLai<\/a>&#8216;s vyAkyAnam:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This vyAkyAnam is mostly based on <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/16\/nampillai-english\/\">nampiLLai<\/a>&#8216;s vyAkyAnam.<\/li>\n<li><em>aruL koNdAdum adiyavar<\/em> &#8211; those who glorify <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s mercy like <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> in thiruvAimozhi 8.8.3 said &#8220;<em>athuvum avanathu innaruL<\/em>&#8221; (that is also his mercy only). <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/08\/thondaradippodi-azhwar\/\">thoNdaradippodi AzhwAr<\/a> says in thirumAlai 46 &#8220;<em>AnaikkanRu aruLai Intha<\/em>&#8221; (one who showed his mercy to gajEndhran\/elephant). <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/10\/22\/mudhalazhwargal\/\">bhUthaththAzhwAr<\/a> says in iraNdAm thiruvanthAdhi 56 &#8220;<em>aruL purintha sinthai<\/em>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s merciful thoughts). <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/20\/periyazhwar\/\">periyAzhwAr<\/a> says in periyAzhwAr thirumozhi 5.4.1 &#8220;<em>ninnaruLE purinthirunthEn<\/em>&#8221; (desiring for your mercy only). <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/10\/22\/mudhalazhwargal\/\">pEyAzhwAr<\/a> says in mUnRAm thiruvanthAdhi 16 &#8220;<em>aruLAthozhiyumE<\/em>&#8221; (always merciful). <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/23\/thirumangai-azhwar\/\">thirumangai AzhwAr<\/a> says &#8220;<em>AzhiyAnaruLE<\/em>&#8221; (mercy of the one who holds sudharsana chakra only &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/17\/divya-dhampathi\/\">srIman nArAyaNan<\/a>). All these <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/azhwars\/\">AzhwArs<\/a> are fully situated in <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s prasAdham (mercy) and have no attachment in self-effort.<\/li>\n<li><em>arumaRai<\/em> &#8211; vEdham which is very difficult to acquire\/understand, i.e., the confidential\/essence part of vEdham which is upanishadhs. The meanings of upanishadhs can only be understood by the ones who are situated in sathva guNam (pure goodness). For such persons, their wealth is that deep knowledge of upanishadhs. That too acquiring the knowledge by the grace of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> (not through self-effort). Such knowledge is blissful (<em>inbuRa<\/em>) as said in brahma sUthram 1.1.15 &#8220;<em>thaththEthu vyapadhEsAchcha<\/em>&#8221; (As <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> is explained as the source for <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">jIvAthmA<\/a>&#8216;s Anandham (they are different from each other)).<\/li>\n<li><em>Ayiram inthamizh pAdinAn<\/em> &#8211; sung 1000 pAsurams. For the well-being of an <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">AthmA<\/a>, just one pAsuram from thiruvAimozhi is sufficient. But <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> sung the most difficult principles in the manner that everyone can best relish.<\/li>\n<li><em>pAdinAn aruL kaNdIr<\/em> &#8211; Such <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>&#8216;s aruL (mercy) is greater than <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s aruL since <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> uplifts the <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/06\/thathva-thrayam-chith-who-am-i\/\">jIvAthmA<\/a>s that are given up by <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> himself.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Highlights from <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/12\/15\/azhagiya-manavala-perumal-nayanar\/\">azhagiya maNavALa perumaL nAyanAr<\/a>&#8216;s vyAkyanam:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>aruL koNdAdum adiyavar inbuRa<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> sung <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi <\/a>for the pleasure of sAthvikas (who are fully situated in proper knowledge) and not for the pleasure of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>adiyavar &#8211; servants\/devotees &#8211; ones who have sEshathva gyAnam (knowledge of servitude) &#8211; such knowledge must lead to kainkaryam (service).<\/li>\n<li><em>aruL koNdAdum adiyavar<\/em> &#8211; those firmly believe that for such kainkaryam, <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s mercy is the sAdhanam (means\/process). mercy is upAyam (means) and kainkaryam is purushArththam (goal). Ones who glorify <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s mercy more than any other of his qualities. They glorify mercy more since when there is mercy, <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s other qualities will be worthy, but when there is no mercy, other qualities will become useless. Just like <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> is more glorifiable than dhEvathAntharams (other dhEvathAs), <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s mercy is more glorifiable than his other qualities.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s krupai is required for sakthan (one who is capable to engage in karma, gyAna, bhakthi yOgams) and asakthan (one who fully surrenders revealing his incapability). For karma, gyAna, bhakthi yOgam followers, <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> looks at their difficult efforts, have mercy on them, becomes pleased and fulfills their desire. For prapannas, they reveal their Akinchanyam (having nothing in their side) and <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> shows mercy on them to fulfill their desires.<\/li>\n<li>To show that <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> uses his mercy to uplift others, two pramANams are quoted &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> himself says in periya thiruvanthAdhi 26 &#8220;<em>aruLennum thaNdu<\/em>&#8221; (stick named mercy) and thirumangai AzhwAr says in periya thirumozhi 6.2.4 &#8220;<em>aruLennum oL vAL<\/em>&#8221; (sword named mercy). Since <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> has brAhmaNyam, he uses the example of stick and since\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/23\/thirumangai-azhwar\/\">thirumangai AzhwAr<\/a> has kshAthram (warrior qualities) he uses the example of sword. In arumpadham, it is explained that <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> is said as brAhmaNa due to his tranquil nature &#8211; the most advanced\/peaceful state of understanding brahmam clearly.<\/li>\n<li><em>inbuRa<\/em> &#8211; even though these sAthvikas know that mercy is the way to get <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s benediction, they are blissful to hear the same from <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>. When others recommend\/speak about our favourite, we will be naturally pleased.<\/li>\n<li><em>arumaRaiyin poruL<\/em> &#8211; <em>maRaiyin arum poruL<\/em> (most important meaning of vEdham) that is mercy is the means and kainkaryam is the goal.<\/li>\n<li><em>poruLai aruLinAn<\/em> &#8211; Since <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> would not recite vEdham as it is (due to his varNam), he is revealing the meanings of the same. While the vEdham itself cannot be learned\/recited by chathurtha varNam (sUdra), everyone can learn\/speak the <em>meanings<\/em> of vEdham irrespective of their varNam.<\/li>\n<li><em>Ayiram inthamizh pAdinAn<\/em> &#8211; Unlike praNavam which is very short and mahAbhAratham which is very long, he sung 1000 pAsurams in beautiful thamizh.<\/li>\n<li><em>pAdinAn<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> sang &#8211; vEdham is apaurushEyam (not written\/compiled by any individual) and is considered as the highest pramANam. But if compiled by individuals, will these be pramANam? If these were sung out of nigraham (disgust), it would not be pramANam. But as <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> himself says in 7.9.3 &#8220;<em>Am mudhalvan ivanenRu thaRRERRi en nA muthal vanthu pugunthu nalli kavi thUmuthal paththarkkuth thAn thannaich chonna en vAy muthal appanai<\/em>&#8221; (selecting me (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>) as the chosen\/leading one,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> gave me full knowledge, being seated in my tongue, compiled beautiful poems on himself which are most enjoyable for mumukshus), it was <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s own words which came through him in a joyful manner &#8211; so it is a valid pramANam.<\/li>\n<li><em>aruL kaNdIr ivvulaginil mikkathE<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>&#8216;s mercy is great and well-known in this world. Not the pAsuram, not the one who compiled the pAsuram (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>), not the mercy of the one who blessed <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> to compile the pAsuram (<a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>) &#8211; but <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>&#8216;s mercy is greater.<\/li>\n<li><em>inthamizh pAdinAn&#8230;<\/em> &#8211; Not the mercy of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> who gave the difficult gIthai, but the mercy of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> who gave the sweetest thiruvAimozhi. Not gIthai, which is spoken by <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a> independently, but <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thiruvAimozhi <\/a>which is spoken by <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> by the grace of <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><em>inthamizh pAdinAn aruL kaNdIr ivvulaginil mikkathE<\/em> &#8211; As said in thiruvAimozhi 10.6.11 &#8220;<em>kEttArAr vAnavargaL sevikkiniya senchol<\/em>&#8221;\u00a0 (the people of paramapadham wants to hear thiruvAimozhi again and again), paramapadham is filled with <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>&#8216;s pAsurams. Similarly, this samsAram is filled with <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>&#8216;s mercy.<\/li>\n<li><em>Ayiram&#8230;<\/em> &#8211; No one performs anjali as soon as hearing the name of krishNa who spoke gIthai. But as soon as we hear <a href=\"http:\/\/azhwarthirunagari.koyil.org\">thirukkurukUr<\/a> (the birth place of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>), we perform an anjali (as part of thiruvAimozhi sEvAkAlam, in the last pAsuram of each pathikam (decad), we perform anjali hearing <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>&#8216;s name or his birth place <a href=\"http:\/\/azhwarthirunagari.koyil.org\">thirukkurukUr<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li><em>kaNdIr<\/em> &#8211; this is obviously visible. <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">bhagavAn<\/a>&#8216;s mercy is to be understood from sAsthram, but <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a>&#8216;s mercy is obviously visible for us to see.
