That would not be accurate because the focus is not on old times, but on the music of the pAsuram, so <em>\u2018paN tharu\u2019 <\/em>is apt.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>vyAkyAnam<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong><em>engaL irAmAnusa muni vEzham \u2013 <\/em><\/strong><em>\u201cengaL irAmAnusan\u201d, \u201cem irAmAnusan\u201d, \u201cennai ALa vandhu ippadiyil piRandhadhu\u201d, <\/em>\u00a0and so in many pAsurams <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2013\/03\/26\/thiruvarangathu-amudhanar\/\">amudhanAr<\/a> has divined in this way \u2013 \u00a0this is due to his love towards the wonderful divine body of <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>, you see!<\/p>\n<p>The elephant that is <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> who incarnated for us, unlike the worldly elephant that has got lowered sentience, this elephant is here to condemn those who try to propagate wrong meanings for vEdhas, and to enlighten them and put them in proper track of vEdhas, and to protect the amicable ones, and be one to meditate upon \u2013 this elephant is one having such flourishing of sentience\/knowledge;<\/p>\n<p>in this way for this elephant that is not material based, its knowledge also would be of that size;<\/p>\n<p>describing <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> as an elephant is to show his ability to destroy the opponents, and for the ones protected by him to make them eligible for getting crowned.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>paNdaru mARan pasum thamizh \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>that which is complete in all respects of grammar, style, construction, etc., for pAsuram, which is enjoyable for the ones who take it up; Or, even though for proper emphasis it cannot be split and considered as \u2018<em>paNdu aRu\u2019 (<\/em>instead of<em> paN tharu), <\/em>we can say that like how <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/http:\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">sarvESvaran<\/a> Himself incarnated as vyAsar in each yuga-cycle [4 yugas] and gave vEdhas in good form, in each kali yugam, etc., among the cycles, <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/http:\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">sarvESvaran<\/a> Himself incarnates as knowledgeable noble ones \u00a0and gives dhrAvida (thamizh) vEdhas to us \u2013 this is famous as said in brahma, bhArgava, pAdhma, etc., purANas;<\/p>\n<p>so <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> which is eternal and not authored by a person, is hard for anyone to know and understand in their mind except for the devotees;<\/p>\n<p><em>mARan <\/em>is the original first divine name of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhvAr<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>pasum thamizh \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>constructed by him which is in pure thamizh language, that is <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a>;<\/p>\n<p>As \u2018<em>mARan paNiththa thamizh maRai\u2019, <\/em>and, \u00b4<em>eenRa mudhal thAy satakOpan\u2019, <\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> that is connected to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhvAr<\/a><\/em>;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Anandham pAy madhamAy \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>From the sea that is SrIpathi (husband of SrI mahAlakshmi), the cloud that is <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">AzhvAr<\/a>,\u00a0 sourced the water that is great kindness, and poured in on the hill that is <em><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/22\/nathamunigal\/\">periya mudhaliyAr (nAthamunigaL)<\/a><\/em>, and that kindness came down as water falls that are <em><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/25\/manakkal-nambi\/\">maNakkAl nambi,<\/a> <\/em>and <em><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/24\/uyyakkondar\/\">uyyak koNdAr<\/a>,<\/em>\u00a0 and reached the river that is the elder AchAryar <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/01\/alavandhar\/\">ALavandhAr<\/a>, and filled the lake that is <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a><em>, <\/em>and flowed freely through the pathways\/canals that are <a href=\"https:\/\/guruparamparai.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/17\/introduction-contd\/\">the preceptors<\/a>, and went to the paddies that are sentient beings of this material world, and protected them \u2013 so <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> is referred with joy as \u2018<em>kavi amudham\u2019<\/em> (nectar that is poetry), and as \u2018<em>thoNdarkku amudhu uNNach chonmAlai\u2019, <\/em>and so it is nectar for everyone \u2013 the happiness that came out of <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> that is fully of joy, and so that nectar has gathered and is pouring out (from <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) (like how for a mad elephant water would pour from its eyes);<\/p>\n<p><strong>{Translator&#8217;s note:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/08\/18\/nammazhwar-english\/\">nammAzhvAr<\/a><\/em> is also known as &#8216;<em>parAnkuSar&#8217;, <\/em>a meaning of which is that for debaters of other philosophies who were like mad elephants, he was like the stick that can control and remove that madness; there &#8211; he removed the madness; here &#8211; he created the sort of madness in <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>; \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> used that stick to win the debaters of other philosophers; since it is having such truthfulness it is the ultimate authority\u00a0 &#8211; such distinguished vEdham; <em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>vEdham that shows the supremacy of emperumAn in saying \u2018<em>sathyam gyAnam anantham brahma\u2019. <\/em>(so \u2018nal\u2019 (good) vEdham\u2019).<\/p>\n<p>And it is apt that vEdham is defined as \u2018<em>parAvara thathvAni yathAvathu vEdhayathi ithi vEdha:\u2019<\/em> (shows the factual meanings correctly and clearly like a mirror).<\/p>\n<p>The inner meaning for the adjective for vEdham as \u2018<em>meymmai koNda\u2019 <\/em>:- For the misunderstanding \u2018<em>rajjAvayam sarpa:\u2019,<\/em> \u00a0(rope as snake), only when we get the correct knowledge \u2018i<em>yam rajjurEva na sarpa:\u2019 (<\/em>this is rope only, not a snake), would we realize what it is; in the same way, for the eternal ignorance through the philosophies which derive own meanings and which dismiss or misinterpret vEdhas, vEdhas show the true meanings and clears the misunderstanding.<\/p>\n<p>So, (<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>) uses the help of stick that is vEdham that is instrumental in winning the opposing debaters;<\/p>\n<p><em>kozhu <\/em>\u2013 greatness<em>;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Or, even though what is mentioned now is samskrutha vEdham, it can also be taken together with the thamizh vEdham mentioned earlier. (that is, <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> using the stick that is <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> as well).<\/p>\n<p>This phrase implies an \u2018also\u2019 here; so he not only just held the stick in his hand to correct them, but also affected them with the stick such that they got corrected;\u00a0 for emperumAn to correct others He is always holding conch and disc as said in \u2018<em>sangodu chakkaram Endhum thadak kaiyan<\/em>\u2019<em>, <\/em>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> is also holding in his hands the stick that is in the form of vEdham!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>kuvalayaththE maNdi vandhu EnRadhu \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>in the places where you were ruling as if they are yours, from <em>sEthu <\/em>in south to the <em>himAchal <\/em>in the north, <em>vEnkatAchala, yAdhavAchala, <\/em>and, S<em>AradhA peetam, <\/em>etc., divine places, he argued and won the debaters who came to argue, and that is how he came against you;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>vAdhiyargAL \u2013 <\/em><\/strong>Oh you who are attached to arguing for philosophies that ignore or misinterpret vEdhas!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>ungaL vAzhvu aRRadhE<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 your well being of having grown big with disciples and next levels of disciples, has ended! As you were thinking of living and growing with disciples and next levels of disciples, all your philosophies have been lost;<\/p>\n<p>jeeyar too divined this meaning in \u2018<em>sankara bhAskara yAdhava bhAttap prabhAkarar thangaL matham sAyvura vAdhiyar mAyguvar enRu chathu maRai vAzhndhidu nAL\u2019<\/em> (the day when all the ill meaning philosophies like Sankara etc., were won and the four vEdhas lived well (that is <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>\u2019s incarnation day of chiththirai thiruvAdhirai)).<\/p>\n<p>The SlOkam \u2018<em>kaNAdha paripAdibhi:\u2019, <\/em>(about how other philosophies were won over by the words of <a href=\"https:\/\/guruparamparai.wordpress.com\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">yatheendhrar<\/a>), and the SlOkam \u2018<em>gathAdhAthA gadhAnAm\u2019, <\/em>\u00a0are to be considered as the authoritative reference for this meaning.<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>From AzhwAr thirunagari SrI u.vE. vidhwAn thirumalai nallAn chakravarththi rAmakrishNa iyengAr\u2019s \u2018<em>amudha virundhu<\/em>\u2019 :<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is <em>\u2018thamizh\u2019<\/em>, moreover \u2018<em>pasum thamizh<\/em>\u2019, and moreover \u2018<em>paN tharu pasum thamizh<\/em>\u2019, and more than anything it is \u2018<em>mARan paN tharu pasum thamizh<\/em>\u2019 \u2013 so it goes without saying that <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a> would be so ecstatic upon immersing in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unable to stay in, the experience of <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/thiruvaimozhi\/\">thiruvAimozhi<\/a> comes out as joyous tears from <a href=\"https:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/06\/emperumanar\/\">emperumAnAr<\/a>;
