He then recited the previous pAsuram, as if to himself, but in reality again to the samsAris only. Despite taking so much efforts to say good things to them, seeing their indifference and not being involved with <em>bhagavath vishayam<\/em> (knowing and enjoying about emperumAn) he becomes averse to them. Just as a person chews a block of camphor to rid of foul taste in the mouth, he immerses himself in the sweetness of thiruvarangam (SrIrangam) and laments that while the samsAris too are born to enjoy this sweetness they are not showing any inclination towards this. Thus he brings to an end the <em>parOpadhESam<\/em> (counselling others) that he started with the 4<sup>th<\/sup> pAsuram. Even though this pAsuram appears as if <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thondaradippodi-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> is talking to himself, it is considered as part of<em> parOpadhEsam<\/em>. The good words coming out of a <em>sAthvic<\/em> (purely good) person should be followed by others too.<\/p>\n<p>Let us look at the pAsuram and its meanings:<\/p>\n<p>\u0bb5\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bbf\u0ba9\u0bae\u0bcd \u0bae\u0bc1\u0bb0\u0bb2\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b9a\u0bcb\u0bb2\u0bc8 \u0bae\u0baf\u0bbf\u0bb2\u0bbf\u0ba9\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b86\u0bb2\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b9a\u0bcb\u0bb2\u0bc8<br \/>\n\u0b95\u0bca\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bb2\u0bcd \u0bae\u0bc0\u0ba4\u0ba3\u0bb5\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b9a\u0bcb\u0bb2\u0bc8 \u0b95\u0bc1\u0baf\u0bbf\u0bb2\u0bbf\u0ba9\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b95\u0bc2\u0bb5\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b9a\u0bcb\u0bb2\u0bc8<br \/>\n\u0b85\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bb0\u0bcd \u0b95\u0bcb\u0ba9\u0bcd \u0b85\u0bae\u0bb0\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b9a\u0bcb\u0bb2\u0bc8 \u0b85\u0ba3\u0bbf \u0ba4\u0bbf\u0bb0\u0bc1\u0bb5\u0bb0\u0b99\u0bcd\u0b95 \u0bae\u0bc6\u0ba9\u0bcd\u0ba9\u0bbe<br \/>\n\u0bae\u0bbf\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0b9f\u0bb0\u0bcd \u0baa\u0bbe\u0baf\u0bcd\u0ba8\u0bcd\u0ba4\u0bc1\u0ba3\u0bcd\u0ba3\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bcd \u0b9a\u0bcb\u0bb1\u0bcd\u0bb1\u0bc8 \u0bb5\u0bbf\u0bb2\u0b95\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bbf\u00a0\u0ba8\u0bbe\u0baf\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bcd\u0b95\u0bc1 \u0b87\u0b9f\u0bc1\u0bae\u0bbf\u0ba9\u0bc0\u0bb0\u0bc7.<\/p>\n<p><em>vaNdinam muralum sOlai mayilinam Alum sOlai<\/em><br \/>\n<em>koNdal mIdhaNavum sOlai kuyilinam kUvum sOlai<\/em><br \/>\n<em>aNdar kOn amarum sOlai aNi thiruvarangam ennA<\/em><br \/>\n<em>miNdar pAyndhuNNum sORRai vilakki nAykku iduminIrE<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"http:\/\/yourlisten.com\/sarathy.thothathri\/thirumalai-14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Listen<\/a><\/h3>\n<p><iframe style=\"width: 100%;\" src=\"\/\/yourlisten.com\/embed\/html5?17594333\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><strong><u>Word-by-word meaning<br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>vaNdinam <\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; a swarm of bees<br \/>\n<strong>muralum sOlai<\/strong> \u2013 \u00a0gardens where the bees keep humming<br \/>\n<strong>mayil inam<\/strong> \u2013 a muster of peacocks<br \/>\n<strong>Alum sOlai<\/strong> \u2013 gardens where the peacocks are dancing<br \/>\n<strong>koNdal mIdhu aNavum<\/strong>\u00a0 &#8211; clouds overhanging and hugging<br \/>\n<strong>sOlai<\/strong> \u2013 gardens<br \/>\n<strong>kuyil inam<\/strong> \u2013 a bevy of quails<br \/>\n<strong>kUvum sOlai<\/strong> \u2013 gardens where the quails keep calling out to each other<br \/>\n<strong>aNdar kOn<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/granthams.koyil.org\/2013\/03\/12\/thathva-thrayam-iswara-who-is-god\/\">sarvESvaran<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>) who is the lord of nithyasUris<br \/>\n<strong>amarum sOlai<\/strong> \u2013 gardens where emperumAn has taken permanent residence<br \/>\n<strong>aNi<\/strong> \u2013 like an ornament (to samsAram)<br \/>\n<strong>thiru arangam ennA<\/strong> \u2013 those who do not pronounce the word \u201c<em>SrIrangam<\/em>\u201d<br \/>\n<strong>miNdar<\/strong> \u2013 ungrateful fool<br \/>\n<strong>pAyndhu uNNum sORRai <\/strong>\u2013 falling over [others] to eat food<br \/>\n<strong>vilakki<\/strong> \u2013 prevent (them from eating)<br \/>\n<strong>nIr nAykku idumin<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0 you give that [food] to a dog<\/p>\n<h3><strong><u>vyAkhyAnam (Explanation)<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>vaNdinam muralum Solai<\/strong> \u2013 just like people crowd together near (flowing) holy rivers and have a bath, the bees come in swarms to these gardens as they contain lot of honey. \u201c<em>muralum\u201d<\/em> \u2013 since they have consumed honey up to their necks, they are not able to stay in one place and keep humming around. This is similar to nithyAthmAs and mukthAthmAs in SrivaikuNtam, enjoying <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> and as a consequence, singing <em>sAma gAnam<\/em> (the musical notes of sAma vEdha).<\/p>\n<p><strong>mayil inam Alum sOlai<\/strong> \u2013 looking at the verdant gardens and hearing the humming of the bees, the peacocks think that monsoon has arrived [the swarm of bees appear like cloud to these peacocks] and start dancing in ecstasy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>koNdal mIdhu aNavum sOlai<\/strong> \u2013 hearing the humming of the bees, looking at the vastness and greenery of the garden and mistaking thiruvarangam for ocean, the clouds come over this place and hang around in a hugging fashion. Another interpretation is that these gardens have risen up to the level of cloud. As <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/nammazhwar\/\">nammAzhwAr<\/a> says about <em>thirumAlinrunchOlai<\/em> in <a href=\"https:\/\/divyaprabandham.koyil.org\/index.php\/2016\/06\/thiruvaimozhi-2-10-8-valam-seydhu\/\">thiruvAimozhi 2.10.8<\/a> \u201c<em>mayal migu pozhil sUzh mAlirunchOlai<\/em>\u201d similar to thirumAlirunchOlai deluding the clouds, the gardens in SrIrangam also delude clouds into believing that it is an ocean. In thirumAliunchOlai, because of the darkness of the gardens, the starting point and the end-point were not clear, creating a delusion. Here, the gardens make the clouds and peacocks to mistake something for something else [as explained above] and create delusion in them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>kuyil inam kUvum sOlai <\/strong>\u2013 unlike the bees, clouds and peacocks, which came out of their places, the quails remain wherever they are, and call out one to another, due to the coolness of the place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>aNdar kOn amarum sOlai<\/strong> \u2013 Just as bees, clouds, peacocks and quails, <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a> also looks at the expanse of the gardens here and their sweetness, forgets that he is the lord of <em>nithyasUris <\/em>(permanent dwellers) in <em>paramapadham<\/em> (SrIvaikuNtam) and wants to be here permanently. Just as emperumAn is the refuge for all the samsAris who he protects, this place is the refuge for sarvESvaran himself. \u201c<em>aNdar<\/em>\u201d refers to <em>nithyasUris<\/em> and \u201c<em>aNdarkOn\u201d <\/em>refers to their lord, <em>parapapadhanAthan<\/em>.\u00a0 &#8220;<em>amarum<\/em>\u201d &#8211;\u00a0 forgetting <em>parapamadham<\/em>, he takes permanent residence here. The term <em>paramapadham<\/em> also implies <em>vyUha<\/em> (his <em>kshIrasamudhra<\/em> or <em>thiruppARkadal or milk ocean<\/em>), <em>vibhava<\/em> (various incarnations such as rAma, krishNa et al).<\/p>\n<p><strong>sOlai aNi thiruvarangam<\/strong> \u2013 one meaning is that the gardens are like an ornament to the temple here. Another meaning is that the temple is an ornament to samsAram (materialistic realm).<\/p>\n<p><strong>thiruvangam ennA miNdar<\/strong> \u2013 While he has taken up permanent residence in this place for their sake, the samsAris, like fools, are not mentioning the name of the place that he is residing in. <em>miNdar<\/em> \u2013 they do not realise their present position nor do they know what is coming up next. In other words, hell and womb are catching the scruff of their necks to push them and they keep desiring for their food and clothing to stay in samsAram forever.<\/p>\n<p><strong>pAyndhu uNNum sORRai vilakki nAykku idumin nIrE<\/strong> \u2013 those who do not say the word <em>thiruvarangam <\/em>are ungrateful people. They eat by stealing the materials from <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/sriman-narayanan\/\">emperumAn<\/a>. Remove the food that they are eating and give it to dogs, ordains the <a href=\"http:\/\/acharyas.koyil.org\/index.php\/thondaradippodi-azhwar\/\">AzhwAr<\/a> of good people.\u00a0 sarvESvaran, who created the samsAris, out of consideration for their well-being, has left SrIvaikuNtam and is dwelling in the temple. Forgetting such a great help, these samsAris are enjoying their food.
