The attributes of divine beauty, fragrance, tenderness etc., the attribute of soul\u2018s great kindness, simplicity and mercy, among these taking vows to safeguard the devotees \u2013 with all these greatnesses Sriman Narayana is equal to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Periya Pirattiyar<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In other words, by adding the word <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sri<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the feet of Madhava, where <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Piratti <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is living at His feet. In such a case, Lord\u2019s feet which are adorned by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Piratti<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, similar to Selvappillai in Melkote. Here the commentator reminds Kuresa\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sundarabhahustavam Sloka <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 version &#8211; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Srimanthow Haricharanow Samasrithoham<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0&#8211; which means that \u201cHari who is having eternal relationship with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Piratti<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, such feet I approach as a means\u201d.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nammalvar much desired to do service to Krishna. Nammalvar could not do direct <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">kainkaryam<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Krishna and he intended to perform <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">madalural,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which means to ride a horse made of palmyra stems, as a disgruntled lover to proclaim his grief and win \u00a0Lord\u2019s love. Such intention in the mind of Nammalvar was perceived by Mamunigal and this comes in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sloka<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Madhavangri jalajathvaya nitya seva premavilasaya Parankusa<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d. Emberumanar had great devotion at Nammalvar\u2019s feet. Tiruvarangaththamudanar in his Prabandham also says \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maran Adipanindu uyyindavan \u2013 Ramanusa<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">n\u201d. Following him, Mamunigal said \u00a0\u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parankusa pada bhaktam ramanujam\u201d. Para <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0means religions like Jainism, bhuddism etc. and all those that does not accept Veda as a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pramana<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advaitas<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who are misinterpreting Vedas, otherwise metaphor as \u00a0elephants. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parankusa <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">means that Nammalvar is the hook like controller of such elephants and hence called <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parankusa.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> One can read the commentary of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tiruvoymozhi <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Nammalvar in the decad 4.10 about this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The word <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ramanuja<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> means that since He is the reincarnation \u00a0of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lakshmana,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who is the brother of \u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sri Rama<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avataras<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of ten <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alwars <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were considered as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abhinava Dasavatara<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0Among these, Nammalvar is the incarnation of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ramavatara<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Hence, Sri Annappangar Swami considered that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sri \u00a0Ramanuja <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the reincarnation of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lakshmana<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">parama bhakti <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sri Ramanuja <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is unquestionable. \u00a0Further, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sri Ramanuja <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a Chief Sage who controlled the mind, \u00a0and he has the capacity to eradicate love, anger, greed etc. of those who approach him. This means that one who controls one\u2019s mind will eradicate other\u2019s flaws. Since the feet of Madhava is compared with that of a lotus which is fresh, softness etc., \u00a0Nammalvar derived the devotion and attributes at the feet of Madhava. Since, the feet of Nammalvar is not compared with that of lotus, the devotion derived for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sri Ramanuja<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is natural, as he is the disciple whose nature is to be devoted to his Acharya. That is applicable here. Naturally derived devotion on Acharya as stated in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sastra<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is greater than the devotion derived by the attributes of Lord. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is to be noted that Mamunigal praises <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sri Ramanuja<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by saying \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parankusa pada bhaktam yatipatim Ramanujam\u2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Here Mamunigal says that the reason for devotion on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sri Ramanuja,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who is Acharya for him, is that he has devotion on his Acharya, also a Chief Sage, Nammalvar and hence he is called <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parankusa pada bhakta<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yathiraja <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">respectively. The word <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yathipati <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has two meanings. \u00a0In primitive terms ( <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yatinam Patihi Yatipatihi)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pati<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> means that He is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seshi<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (who is Chief to accept the service of disciple) and in derivative name <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paati<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pati Iti Patihi)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, means that he is the protector. Since <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sri Ramanuja <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is Chief and Protector for the saints, He is also the happiest to accept the service. Actually <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tirumantra<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which has three words give these meanings: Acharya is the Chief, Acharya is the Protector and Happiest person to accept the service.
