My lord mercifully consumed from the shining bosom of cruel minded pUthanA, who was having loud roar and sword like teeth; he shot cruel arrows to eliminate lankA’s eternal poverty of being connected to evil people; such emperumAn is mercifully present in thirumaNik kUdam which is present in thirunAngUr where the distinguished water, which is washing the vermillion mix applied on the bosoms of the ladies, who are having kOvai fruit like lips, is flowing, spreading fragrance,

Highlights from vyAkyAnam (Commentary)

kavvai … – Considering that yaSOdhAp pirAtti will lovingly speak to krishNa with emotions, pUthanA, the strong demon,  was trying to imitate her making huge sounds, and was having sword like teeth; she was having bosom which was shining due to the poison in it. He tasted such bosom.

ilangai manniya idumbai thIra – lankA has an eternal poverty – just as an anthill will be constantly inhabited by snakes, lankA is inhabited by evil demon clan; to eliminate such poverty. Greatness for a town – being inhabited by noble people; lowliness for a town – being inhabited by evil people. If recited as “kUra” instead of “thIra“, it should be understood as “as the suffering increased, emperumAn, my lord, eliminated it with his arrow”.

kadum kaNai thurandha endhai –  My lord who mercilessly shot arrows on the enemies. If recited as “vavviya idumbai thIra” it is to be understood as “to eliminate the poverty which fell upon lankA”; to eliminate the sorrow which occurred due to the connection with rAvaNa.

kovvai … – Washing away the vermillion mix on the bosoms of ladies who have kOvai fruit like reddish mouth, the divine water is spreading fragrance; such thirunAngUr.
